hi all, I am moving back to the Rochester area and am on a quest for a boarding barn and trainer … and of course a vet and farrier as well. I have been looking around online but I would appreciate recommendations — or warnings on places/people to avoid (please DM these). I have 2 horses, a mare and a gelding, and primarily ride dressage but we enjoy riding in fields, hacks, and occasional over fences work. I am looking for stall board with excellent care … and an indoor arena is a must have. Right now my horses live together in their own pasture, it would be great if that could continue but this is not necessarily a requirement. I would like as much turnout as possible — currently mine are on night turnout (4pm-8am) year around but I love in the south so I realize this would need to be adapted for the colder weather here. I ride in the evenings after work during the week and am finding some barn hours restricting. It is not all that unusual for me to be riding until 10pm to be able to work both horses. I don’t need a big lesson program however a dressage (or eventing) instructor onsite or access to one that would visit somewhat regularly would be great. I am hoping to stay more or less around the Fairport area. Willing to drive a reasonable distance (30 minutes) for the right barn. I appreciate any and all feedback! Thanks in advance!
Here are some of the facilities that I have been able to find online… does anyone know about any of these? Or instructors that visit these farms?
- pegasus dressage — Deb Lockemeyer
- second wind stable
- wehle farms
- cobblestone equestrian
- glory hill farm
- irish rose stables
Susan Gilson is in Webster.
Wehle is Carrie Wehle eventing. Very nice facility. As is Irish Rose. But they are not the closest to Fairport.
