Boarding and Young Horse Training in Cleveland, OH

Hello.

I am hoping a few of you can help me. I have a job interview in Cleveland next week, so want to check into boarding barns in the area that specialize in dressage, but also have access to trails and possibly small jumps. My horse is still fairly green (and can be a handful), so I need a dressage trainer that is used to working with young or difficult horses…but also has the patience to deal with them. It would be great if I found a dressage instructor that also has jumping experience (but jumping doesn’t need to be a focus for me). I also need turnout for at least 6-8 hours a day. I went to the NODA site to see what they had, and there are several nice barns, but was hoping someone could give me the scoop on them, or tell me about others that aren’t listed. I just finally found a trainer and barn that I LOVE in Michigan, and am hating that there are not a lot of jobs in Michigan.

FYI, my horse is currently at beginning Training Level (although he does lateral movements very easily ). We have only shown in a few walk-trot classes last year, and would like to do some Training tests this year. I would eventually like to get up to at least 4th level with him. So I need a trainer that can help me do this too.

Grand Haven Stable doesn’t offer boarding just horse shows and USDF Dressage camps. It’s a little more than 1 hour east from downtown Cleveland. I’m not sure if Cindy is still offering boarding at Rivers Edge, about 1 hour east of downtown Cleveland.

Boarding will depend on which side of Cleveland you reside. If you’re going to be in Cleveland next week, there is a dressage show at Grand Haven on June 6,7 and 8. It would be a great time to scope out the dressage scene in Northeast Ohio, especially Saturday.

That’s good to know Horsecents. I have a phone interview on Monday, so could end up having an in person interview later that week, depending on how things work out.

There are also several Tack Shops to visit and peruse their Bulletin Boards for boarding barns. Paddock, Schneiders and Big D’s on the east side, Valley Tack on the west. South Farm is having a Combined Test on June 7 and 8 and there might even be a H/J show at Andrews that weekend.

Sue Hines has done a lot of young dressage horses in the area and she is very respected, especially good with tough horses. She is a very successful eventer and does very good dressage. She worked with a friend of mine’s horse that we never thought would get backed. She gave the horse alot of confidence and made a lot of difference to the horse. I think you can just google her name and get a few references to her phone #.

that is for sure! for a long time people in the area have sent young horses to her. there are other trainers who do young horses very well, but sue is the one the trainers send theirs to!
