Boarding Barns Near Auburn, AL

Disclaimer: Yes, I did a search, but there was very little information out there, and most of it was several years old.

It looks like I will be moving to Auburn, AL late this summer. I was (still am, faintly) hoping to find a small farmette to rent, but that is looking highly unlikely, so now I’m exploring boarding facilities. I’ll have two horses with me, one semi-retired. I’m not picky about discipline - hunter, jumper, eventing, even dressage or multi-purpose facility - as long as the facility is safe and the care is top-notch. I’d ideally like to get back into a regular riding/lesson/showing program with the younger horse, so an on-site trainer is a plus, but a private barn would work if a visiting trainer or trailerpooling is a possibility. Ample turnout is a MUST. I would consider pasture board for at least one of them under the right conditions (shelter, safe fencing, individual feeding, and no round bales - the old guy has RAO), but I’ve found that really good pasture board situations are few and far between. My guys are Arabs, so, while I’m accustomed to standing out a bit, I’m not interested in a barn where they’ll/we’ll be looked down on because of their breed.

Any thoughts? The only facility names I’ve come across during my search are (in no particular order):
Trimac Farm
Silver Linings Equestrian Center
Jennamere Farm
H&G Horse Quarters
The Stables at Shiloh Farm

This page hasn’t been updated in quite a while, and the website it links to no longer exists. The map also shows it being a 45+ minute drive from Auburn. But I will keep it on the list in case nothing else pans out.

You might contact them. They were active at the AL State Horse Fair so they may have suggestions. it’s not a very horsey area. Best wishes.

I have never boarded at any of these, but I’ve been to shows at H&G and know the owners of Silver Linings and Trimac. H&G has really good facilities and I believe they’ve opened up a lot of their back acreage to turnout. They host a lot of h/j shows, from schooling up to A, I believe. Great arenas and the people have always been very nice and easy going.

Trimac and SL are smaller, but from what I know of the owners I would believe that the care is excellent.

Judy Pirtle’s Sucaro Ridge Farm is in Tuskegee/Shorter area, about 20 minutes from Auburn, and is beautiful with excellent care and trainers.

Montgomery/Pike Road is probably farther than you want, but Foxwood Farms is amazing. I trained and boarded there for several years and it is outstanding.

I’m starting a job at Auburn in April, so we’ll have to meet up! I’ll be on my family farm outside Montgomery and will keep my two retirees there, but I’m thinking about boarding my young horse in auburn so I can ride after work or at Foxwood ( it’s worth the drive).

That is very helpful input. Thank you very much! Yes, it looks like Foxwood is too far away to work for me, but I’ll add Sucaro Ridge to my list, and it’s nice to have votes of approval for H&G, Trimac, and Silver Linings.

We will most definitely have to get together when I move down there! I only have one former student (now in vet school) and one old friend from my teenage years in the area. What department will you be working in?

I’ll be in the office of development based in the alumni center.

SL’s owner used to post on here as FoxyGrl16 or something similar. I don’t know if she’s been on lately but you could try messaging her.

Thanks! I’ll look her up.

I’ll be with the Animal Sciences department, although I’m not sure if I’ll be housed there or in the college of ag administrative offices, since I’ll have some recruiting/advising responsibilities as well. Hopefully, by the time I get down there, you’ll have figured the place out well enough to show me around.
