Boarding Facilities near Danvers, MA

Does anyone know of any good boarding barns on the North Shore in Massachusetts? I live near Danvers, MA and work in the city, but am considering getting back into riding (hunter/jumper, but really hunters). Before I let myself get too invested in this, I want to figure out if it’s realistic! Since I commute in and out of the city Monday - Friday, it would need to be somewhere that isn’t too far from me to get to after work. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, this is my neck of the woods (literally!). Have you checked the Equine Site boards?

Equine Site and Horse Boarding in MA FB group are good places to start. Do you have a horse already, or are you looking for lessons, or ???

One note: MA will be pricey, if you have not boarded here before. I mean really pricey. And the closer the barn is to Boston, the more expensive it will be.

HiddenStars826 - I have not, thank you for the suggestion!

quietann - I don’t have a horse yet. The trainer that I would be working with is in CT, but if I have to commute from Boston to CT to ride that really makes the whole thing unreasonable. I’m trying to figure out if this is realistic to have my possible new horse near me before going shopping. I used to ride with a BNT in the South, so I’m hoping it wouldn’t be too crazy compared to that! Thank you for the help!

It’s pretty expensive. I think hunter barns more so, just from the few I’ve seen. I had to board my horse further north for a while (Haverhill area) due to cheaper pricing.

I boarded up around Ipswich, little further out but a little more reasonable. Still maybe 20-50% higher then comparable facilities in less expensive areas but less then closer to the city options. I lived in West Peabody and it was a good 30-40 min each way, be at least twice that coming from the city after work. Haverhill is a further out then Ipswich.

You might be able to find something west or south if you are not dead set on the Danvers area and the North Shore. Might work better with where in the city you are actually coming from too.

Does your CT trainer have any ideas?

Yep, moved him from Ipswich (15/20 min one way) to Haverhill (30 min one way) because no way could I afford full board anywhere closer. I found full board that was more affordable and with better options than what I had for rough board (plus costs) at the time. There’s really nothing between here and the city. South, or west of the city. But it’s a tough spot between really expensive or really far. Don’t discount Newbury, the Andover/Reading area either.

Sent you a PM.
