Boarding in Lexington,KY

I mentioned the KHJA website here: http://www.khja.org/trainers.html. Since I was last barn shopping in 2008 the trainer list has tripled so there are more options, even a couple that might have worked for me.

Good luck.

Those of you that called Murphy’s, who did you talk to and where are you getting contact numbers?? There was a switch in management in June so maybe you called in the middle of that… great outdoor arena, indoor arena, and facility is being renovated. PM me for more info.

I was perfectly ok with my contact with Murphy’s. I called Mr.
Murphy on his cell – number was obtained from BNT that I work for part time. Since I have a background in AA showing & BNTs he probably thought Melissa’s was a better fit for me. And it might have been but something else came up instead. So, no dissatisfaction on my part.

Thanks for all the info. She lives right off of New Circle/Leestown and her current barn is straight out Leestown past Masterson Station. Haven’t had any traffic problems but she tends to not be on the road at normal rush hours.
She is setting up appointments to visit a few places. Does anyone know - are jumps available at Bryan Station? What about Punchestown? Anyone know of that facility/ trainer?
They have a couple sets of wing standards and poles at bryan station. Nothing super complicated. But it’s only 15 miles to Masterson to school, and there is Split Rock Farm right down the road where she could trailer in for lessons (although it isn’t cheap!). Windy Knoll Farm isn’t far from there either- they are an eventing barn.

ReSomething – you and I are on the same page. I too am too old to spend lots of time driving in heavy traffic.
ellevt – I came from Aiken, SC & plan to go back. Small town so employment is tough to find but more sport horse friendly than Lex.
I called Murphy & Callie Schott also. Murphy passed me off to his daughter Melissa who has the barn on Ironworks & had room. Callie also had room; downside there is VERY big (50ish h/j horses & 35 polo ponies) plus lots of lessons/kids.
I guess my opinion on the training issue is that good ones will have an adequate following & the not so good ones are who stick a gun in your back for more $$. I am lucky enough to free lance work for a couple of h/j BNTs in the area who are available to lesson from & don’t need the local scene for training.
Ah. I would love to live in Aiken! I can definitely see how moving here is a big letdown from that. Keep faith- it took me 6 months not to hate it here, and another 6 months to learn to love it. KY has its charms, deep down. I don’t think I will be super sad though when it’s time to leave!

Well just for future reference - Melissa Murphy is absolutely amazing. Rode with her when she was an assistant for a BNT. If I lived in Lexington and wanted to show she would be my #1 choice.

Just saying

ellevt – Thank you for the kind words/pep talk!! I am really struggling here! I came primarily for better employment opps & that has happened. But I really DREAD winter – I am already cold & it is only October.

This place is absolutely amazing. Stretch, the owner has been in the business forever and takes incredible care of the barns and the grounds. I doubt he requires training board and he is 10-15 min from the Kentucky Horse Park. Stunning place!

Wow, that place looks amazing! It is great to see so many new sport horse facilities coming into the area with decent riding facilities.
