Boarding in Meridian/Boise, ID area?

I am considering a job in Meridian, ID and am investigating boarding facilities. I think there are several people on this board from the area, but most of the threads I can find are several years old so I would like some up-to-date information.

I am looking to spend approx. $400/month. I would prefer a stall with a run and daily turnout but pasture board (with shelter) or just a stall with daily pasture turnout also considered. Quality of care is most critical but I am not a picky owner (proper feeding with a focus on quality forage along with proper water 24/7 all year is my number one priority). Human amenities much less important to me. I travel a fair amount and don’t want to worry about my horse’s care while I am away.

I am an amateur low-level eventer and dressage enthusiast! I would love a facility that offers lessons in all three eventing phases, but if I had to pick one, I would prefer in-house jumping lessons (hunter/jumper is fine) and trailer out for monthly dressage lessons. A place with access to trails without trailering would be awesome as would a few cross country jumps!

Would like advice on whether an indoor arena is necessary for winter riding? I live in Spokane, WA and winter riding is impractical without an indoor. However, I notice a lot of boarding facilities in southwest ID don’t have one so maybe it isn’t as critical?

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked out this site?

I have a friend in Boise… I could hook you up with her if you would like. Just message me if you are interested. Thanks!

I would look into Once Upon a Horse. It’s been many years since I showed there, but they had a cross country course, outdoor dressage arena, outdoor jumping arena, and a covered arena. However, their website http://onceuponahorsedressage.com/cgi-bin/p/awtp-home.cgi?d=once-upon-a-horse makes it seem like they are more into dressage these days. Although, according to the IHJA website a Midori Marinelli does teach jumping out of the barn.

Also check out Boise Saddle & Jump club. http://www.boisesaddleandjumpclub.com/BSC%20Trainers.htm

However, you said human amenities are less important to you in which case I’d check out the stable directory on the BSJC website. I’m pretty sure Once Upon a Horse is a pricey place to board.

There is also Pierce Park Stables http://www.pierceparkstables.com/ I don’t know anything about the place, but it is located close to the foot hills.

Also you asked if an indoor was necessary. I say it depends on what your goals are, what kind of footing the outdoor arena has, what time of day you would be riding, and how tolerant you are of the cold.

Thank you for the info and links. I have contacted Once Upon a Horse and they do have some affordable options if there is availability (I think it is hard to get into those less expensive options!).

Regarding the indoor arena question - I typically ride in the evening (after work) and on the weekend afternoons. Obviously, lights would be necessary in the winter if riding in a outdoor arena after work. I am not particularly cold tolerant so I am thinking an indoor arena would be best!

LaBonnieBon - I will PM you.
