Has anyone heard of a place called Barefoot Paths? I rode a horse for someone out there a few years ago, and was wondering if it was still around/ allows boarders. I think that it’s near Lystra Rd., out past Cole Park Plaza.
I tried to look up Barefoot Paths because we drove past it on our way to and from our new neighborhood - they are right up the road from where we’re moving. I only found an old email address at the time and didn’t get a response.
That’s the tough part about barn searching! If no one knows the barn and can give you a word of mouth reference, it’s super hard to actually get information if the barn doesn’t advertise…When we drove by, it seems they are still boarding - and I think maybe there is a phone number out there, but I can’t recall.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time at Rivendell Farm in Hillsborough, not far out of CH. I’m not from the area so I can’t recommend anyplace else nearby, but I would entrust the Rivendell management with my own horse in a heartbeat. They have a dressage court, a jump ring, and XC. I believe both arenas are lighted. I could be mistaken, however I know for certain that the jump ring is. Great footing. They offer both stall and pasture board with run in sheds if I recall correctly (I haven’t been there in over a year however I am close friends with a former manager who recently relocated to my area.) It is primarily an event facility but I know that there are quite a few pleasure riders who simply enjoy their horses! Everybody I met in multiple visits was extremely kind and welcoming (is that an eventer “thing”? I like it!) and the facility is owned by a veterinarian.

I can tell you that Quail Roost is going to be way too far away… it’s a solid 45 minutes from Chapel Hill. And unless you put your horse in the school program, I’d imagine it will be out of your budget as well.
What about Fenridge, Patricia Roberts’ place out in Mebane? I haven’t been in the area for a while, but Patricia is great and the facility has a lot to offer.
that’s going to be a solid 40-50 minute drive at non-peak hours.
if you can find a barn that is out in the way of Hillsborough or Chatham County, you won’t be dealing with as much traffic as you will going towards Raleigh or Durham…

OMG. I just realized who you are!
I board at Cedarwood. It’s not a conventional dressage or eventing barn, but if you look at it and are interested, pm me for the pros and cons. They offer pasture board in your price range, and have an indoor arena with rubber footing.
I don’t know of Soggy Acres/Forest View’s contact, but I can tell you they are usually full and I’m pretty sure have a waiting list so if you are looking to move soon, you most likely won’t be able to get a spot there, and yes, their board is more than $450.
FenRidge Farm is a lovely place in a very quiet area and very easy to get to from Chapel Hill–just hop on 85 south. I don’t know anyone there personally, but I know the area they are in and have heard nice things about it. It is a very large farm (over 100 acres) with a full lower level cross country course up to prelim. They host some schooling dressage shows, ct’s and horse trials.

Barefoot Paths horse farm is a 100+ acre horse farm located off a side road of Jack Bennett Road in Chatham County. It is about 15 minutes from Chapel Hill. The owners are Rick and Karen Suberman. They are nice folks. This is the best horse farm we have been to near Chapel Hill. It provides a very good quality of life for the horse, which is most important to us. They have 2 outdoor riding rings, huge pastures with lots of grass, and a barn.
We also had a good experience at Baywood Farm located on NC 751 about 7 miles south of Southpoint Mall. The owner, Pat DeAngeles, is friendly. The pastures are a good size, and there is a nice, large grass riding area, as well as a small indoor riding area and barn.
We had a bad/unfriendly experience at Cedarwood, and do not recommend it. Most of the horses at Cedarwood spend more than 95% of their time in their stall, which is not a good quality of life. The manager doesn’t like you to graze your horse on the grounds at Cedarwood.

Baywood Farm is located at 4263 NC Hwy 751, Apex, NC 27523. Its closer to Chapel Hill than Apex though.
Careful about Baywood ,speaking of fires! also I never want to be pulling a horse trailer on 751 and trying to make a turn. The Apex,east Chatham ,south Durham area is quickly becoming all housing developments yet the roads are not improved, two lanes with crazy rush hour or Mall traffic… Forget Apex its over.
I also am thinking of moving towards Chapel Hill but as a pleasure rider cring at those board prices. I have 3 horses. Ouch.
There is a huge barn on Stagecoach rd with a indoor but again horrible rush hour traffic.
One thing to really be careful about is who is watching the horse. At some of the fanciest places you have non-horse person labor feeding and no one is around to notice a colic or trouble. I much prefer a place where the manager lives on-site.I had to board for a yr. and moved horses 3 times,for dangerous conditions, horrble nasty hay or again no one around to watch the horses. It had nothing to do with cost in fact the most expensive place had the worst care and hay.
Well i guess i’ll have to stay on my farm a little longer.sigh …
Reviving this old thread in hopes of people in the Triangle area being able to help me - I’m looking for suggestions of places to try and visit or reach out to. I have two mares and need to move them fairly soon - looking for a safe barn with an arena and safe turnout! (How my standards have lowered!)
Is Baywood still around, and does anyone board there? I’m having a hard time finding any information. How about Lazy Tree Farm? I emailed there but can’t tell if they are still around.
I’m looking for anywhere in the area around Southpoint, 751, or between there and Pittsboro and Chapel Hill. My budget is fairly low (having two is hard), no more than $400 a month each. Or someone who would be willing to have me do partial board, or help out to work off some of their board.
Please PM me if you know of anywhere or just want to let me know where to avoid! Or let me know where you board? There seem to be so many places tucked away in the Triangle, and so many more horse people here than I ever expected!
I don’t know of anyplace that offers stall board in that area for $400/month. For field board, I might suggest http://www.crimsonacresllc.com/ It’s a decent facility near Apex and Bailey, the manager, is very sweet.
You could try posting on the Triangle Area Equestrians page on Facebook. You might luck out and find a private farm that could do stall board for you.
Lazy Tree is definitely still around. $450/mo there. Large group turnout. Don’t know if she has openings, though.
