Boarding in the panhandle

Hey everyone, I have a military friend moving to Crestview Florida. She’s looking for a laid back barn with a stall available for a horse that likes to be out 24/7. Her max is $600 a month. She would like to keep the barn within a 30 minute max drive. Showing and discipline isn’t important. If you have any suggests please fire them off.

She might have good luck posting an ISO in the FB Group “Equine Connection of Northwest Florida”

Thanks for the lead! She’s done a lot of searching online so I guess I’m looking for people here with boots on ground that may have stall open or know someone who does.

YW! I think she can find what she’s looking for, under budget.

I edited my comment, but she’d really be happy in a private situation. I’ll update with her responses.

I can personally recommend Green Acres in Milton FL but it’s over her budget and probably the edge or outside of her driving preference.

I will pass it along because as we all know budget and drive time is subjective :joy::joy::joy:

The care at Green Acres is very good. So there is that.

There is a farm that I only know via FB where the routine is all horses out 24/7 but come into stalls daily to eat that I think would be in her drive area and last I heard well under budget. I’m going to go see if I can find the details.

May I DM you?

Yes

Is Milton close to crest view?

Relatively, yes.

Thanks! I know of a couple places in Milton also but wasn’t sure how close it was

Depending on where in Milton and where in Crestview, the drive time could be within OP’s friend’s preferred driving radius. Again depending on where and where, DeFuniak Springs area might be of interest.

Thanks for all the help. I forwarded everything to my friend.

Eglin AFB has a riding stables with boarding. Not fancy but usually military stables offer very low cost boarding.

She doesn’t want to use the base stables. But thank you. That was my first suggestion to her as I am not familiar with boarding in the area.

Posting an ISO in the FB group is probably the best option. I’m up by Paxton & can make it to East Milton in an hour to an hour 15. If she’s not far off I10 travel time gets better. Crestview is busy & the traffic on 85 or 90 can be a nightmare.

Off the top of my head I can think of Laurel Hill Farms, Whispering Pines Farm, Bermuda Acres & Wilks Hay & Horse Farm to check out. I think it’s called Mystic Meadows down the street from us in Defuniak Springs, they don’t have a FB page that I know of. Property was bought last fall & I think horses just showed up a few weeks ago. Not sure which places would be in budget. Some places here have you supplying your own feed & hay. My hay bill is $650 to $800 a month for 2 TBs eating o/a or orchard & alfalfa. I’d take hay quality into consideration in regards to board rate if it’s on the higher side with all feed included.

My horses are at home but just something for her to think about, there are only 4 or 5 vets that come out to this area. Trailering in to Andalusia, AL is an option for another vet. Milton might be a better option as far as available local vets. The vet I use isn’t far from Mobile & I call a month ahead of time for an appointment so I can get on the books when they are around Pensacola or Milton. I like the area but I find some things a challenge especially coming from Chicago suburbs where anything you want is readily available.
