Boarding near Silver Springs MD

Acquaintance is moving to MD, near Silver Springs. Not having any luck finding boarding for Friesian gelding. Dressage or multi discipline barn. No mandatory training.

This the equiery’s list; s/he may actually do better in howard county (SS is in montgomery):

Howard County would be good, Woodbine area has lots of nice barns

Also just going stright up rte 29 towards columbia and ellicott city.

Will she also be working in Silver Springs area? Given our traffic, it’s kind of important to know what general time and place she’ll normally be coming from when she goes to the barn.

Having lived there for six years I’ll give a warning:

Silver Springs is in FL; Silver Spring is in MD. Locals will quickly, and sometimes forcefully, make this correction!!!

We boarded in Howard Co. It was about a 40 min. ride up Hy. 97 in the late '80s. I did some surfing and board rates that I found are quite high. We were just minutes from Wheaton Park but the waiting list there was years long. All of this combined to induce us to move to TN!!!

First off - Guilherme is 100% right - as a prior MD local “Silver Springs” is akin to fingernails on chalk-board. We’re a little funny about it, alright?

Secondly: The Equiery should become your friend’s new best friend: http://equiery.com/ridingBoardingStables.php

Thirdly: I don’t intend this in a rude way - but there are extensive threads on this subject. Encourage your friend to use the search function with “Montgomery” or “Howard” county.

Once she has a few specifics in mind - post (as LadyJ suggested) here so that she can get the inside traffic scoop. And yes - expect sticker shock.

I am not the one moving there, and I have no idea what compromises or budget the acquaintance is willing/will be forced, to make. They have had no luck looking, and I have been asked for suggestions. I pointed them towards the newhorse.com website, which has about 170 MD boarding barns. Will suggest equiery also. The listings are fewer, but likely more up to date.

And by all means, feel free to ignore any inquiries I make if they are repetitive for you.

I merely intended that as a suggestion for additional information should this thread not garner the number of desired recommendations.
