Hello- I am looking for a boarding option for myself in the RICHMOND area. I primarily do jumpers but have dabbled in the hunters as well. I have recently been in the CT area And used to having an indoor but that is not a dealbreaker for me. It’s been awhile since I’ve looked for barns in this area so any advice or opinions on where to start would be much appreciated.
Haven’t been in the area for a while but check out Sulu Rose Reid at Stillmeadows. I have some friends who rode/ride with her and she is a great jumper coach. They also have an indoor I think! Albeit small.
Yes, Sulu is in Mechanicsville.
Check out Jan Simpson at Hampden Row in Manakin-Sabot. I know them primarily from the hunters, but I believe they do jumpers as well. The farm where they are located is absolutely stunning.
Third for Sulu Rose Reid
Check out Coventry farm in Ashland. It’s owned by Randolph Macon now
As I understand it and I could be wrong, RMC isn’t doing new boarders & a few people who were there got grandfathered in, more or less? If they do, you need to take into consideration whatever the school has going on there will take priority over anything else (like shows, events, ect.) I do know they’re predominately XTC now, and the trainer is really good and there’s a guy who does the local hunter shows that does the IEA stuff. Is Teddi Ismond still at the other barn at Spring Valley? Jan and Hampdon Row are obviously still the big barn, but I know Teddi was at the 2nd barn for a while. Sulu and Teddi are pretty much the only jumper game in town.
Thanks everyone for the replies! After doing some more research, Sulu sounds like she may be the way to go.
I also have heard nothing but wonderful things about Jan and her program but their barn is full for the time being.
I did also look into teddi as a friend of mine used to work for her. while I have heard her training is excellent, I also heard some things that made me suspicious. Of course this is only through outside sources so perhaps she runs a different program now.
coventy looks nice as well and laid back which I think I would like
I would not recommend Teddi.
