Hi all,
I looked back through previous posts but could not find much information with regards to the equestrian scene near Asheville, NC. I will be moving that direction in a few months. My husband and I are considering living downtown and boarding versus finding a rental farm. We have 2 horses- one retired mare and one coming 3 yo mare. We want to be within 30 minutes of downtown and good horse care is of the most importance to me. Does anyone have farms that they would recommend for boarding? Also, anyone know of farms for rent in the area? We would even be willing to help out around a farm if someone had a guest house or caretaker’s cottage that we could stay in. Thanks in advance!
Congrats on the upcoming move, that area is beautiful. I don’t know much about boarding there (I’m in the Piedmont) but if you haven’t already you might want to become a member of the NCHJA FB page. There are members from all over the state and folks post looking for boarding and things of that nature there too.
Check out the WNC equestrians Facebook page-someone there can point you in the direction of what you need. Biltmore offers board and is about as downtown as you can get, but I think it’s pretty pricey. Encore Stables in Candler looks nice-try have a pretty barn and nice outdoor and covered rings. Not sure what the pasture situation is like (they have them, just not sure how steep-something to consider around here). It’s within 30 minutes from downtown.
Those are the two I know of off the top of my head. Check out the Facebook group for some more local resources who are actually in the horse scene around here. Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to find a barn and start riding again since I moved up here, but it’s a beautiful area! I hope you enjoy it!
