Boarding recommendations in NJ?

Currently in VA, but possible move to Clinton/Pottsville/Frenchtown/Tewksbury/Oldwick NJ.

Looking for board for two horses. Ideally a big pasture with run-in, access to stall only needed in the most inclimate weather. Would like ample room to hack more than anything, though an arena would be a bonus.

They both currently live out 24/7 with a run in on 10 acre field. They are accustomed to mixed turnout with one being a big ole wimpy baby in a herd and the other being the benevolent leader/alpha. Neither currently have shoes as they aren’t eventing/hunting right now.

I currently care for two of farm owners horses in VA (grooming/feeding/scheduling and holding for vet/farrier, sourcing hay etc) in exchange for my board although I realize this will be a tough deal to replicate.
I prefer to do my own care and am happy to pitch in to help whenever needed in exchange for board/discount.

My experience as a lifelong horseperson doing my own care, a pro groom, and a barn/farm manager, makes me inclined to steer clear of big boarding facilities. I want to decide what my horses need and when and they are not agreeable to being locked in stalls for long periods of time.

ANY ideas are appreciated as finding boarding for them is the biggest impetus to this move. I am not familiar with the area. #southerngirl

Contact my friend Beth Rera who operates Journeyman Farm in Pitts Grove. Might not be close enough to where you’re speaking of, but she was also a County Saddlery rep and fitter and knows the whole state. journeymanfarm.com

I board in Ringoes, NJ (right near Flemington/Hillsborough if that is at all helpful!) and my horse hunted with the Amwell Valley Hounds last fall. I just moved down to NC so am not local anymore, but if you hunt try contacting them I bet they can help you find a good spot! I’m not aware of any partial or self care places as I wasn’t looking for that, but they’re a great group of people and should help you. Not sure which hunts are out in Tewksbury, I know there is one but can’t think of it. Worth checking out and networking that way. Tewksbury is a horse-dense area, you won’t be short on options!
