I need some help finding a new barn either south of Atlanta or just east. I currently board my semi-retired former eq/jumper gelding at Foxhall in the Douglasville/Chatt Hills area. I have had him there for 3 years and love the facility and management. Unfortunately the owners of the property are closing the barn and want to focus solely on having events and other non-equestrian outdoor sports on the property. All of the horses must be out by December 1st and they will be gutting the beautiful barn. It breaks my heart.
I have always lived in Georgia and grew up in the Johns Creek/Alpharetta/Milton area. I now live in Atlanta and work in Decatur so I do not want to do the traffic dance trying to get anywhere north of the perimeter. I live very close to I-20 and 75/85 near Grady hospital and the Capital so I can easily hop on the highway though I would prefer to drive no more than 50miles (Foxhall is 35miles from me). 50 miles is pushing it really, but do-able for a place I am comfortable with.
About me… I am easy. I schedule my own farrier & vet visits. I don’t panic at every wound/swelling/lameness and hardly call the vet (very few things cold hosing, poultice, or a sweat wrap can’t fix) though I do appreciate a phone call/text letting me know of anything less than normal. About my horse… he is a little high maintenance. 17yo, double colic surgery, NO HAY diet, eats a mush of equine sr 3x/day. On two normal oral medications. Picky about his pasture mates, he was gelded late and possibly used as a stud. No wire fencing. I am open to any disciplines though I only trail ride now and wouldn’t be much income for a trainer. Anywhere with acreage and a lot of turnout would be ideal.
So, that all said, any suggestions?
