Boeckmann Portax tack room question

hi!

I’m thinking of getting a Portax L. I think either the K with the unload ramp or the E, which has more room for the horses. But now I’m wondering if it’s possible to take out the saddle rack bar and fit one of these rubber trunks, which is what I use at the shows. In which case, maybe the L SKA?

Does anyone who has one of these trailers know if I could squeeze this trunk on board? I really don’t need a tack room otherwise. I guess I can just empty the contents of the trunk when I haul out and use it to carry other gear in my tow vehicle worst case scenario. I’m nervous to have it in trailer with the horse, even if I can secure it.

Not sure how quickly you’re looking to move on this, but I plan to visit Maple Lane trailers within the next 3-6 weeks and would happily take measurements of anything they have in stock, if that helps.

I’m just estimating based on my Big Master and the answer would be no. I still use a Stanley at shows but find it easier to throw it in the back of my vehicle. Bridle, saddle and rugs go into the tack room. That makes it all quite tidy and easy to organize (and yet another advantage of towing with am SUV!)

Big Master has entirely different physical dynamics than the Portex, AFAIK.

Probably a good idea to take up Meg on her offer since that will provide some good measurements. Here are the dimensions, but there don’t seem to be floor plans… https://www.boeckmann.com/en/product/horse_trailer/portax/

Thanks guys! Meg if you could measure any of the portax’s that would be amazing! I saw them when I was in Paris for the Longines Masters, but wasn’t seriously considering them. Now it’s all I can think about!!!

No help on the question but I love the quality of boeckmann trailers. They are great to tow even when empty. Kind of which I’d got one now

This brochure has diagrams of the floor plans (see p. 38-40 for the Portax L models), but it doesn’t give dimensions of the tack room areas. https://bm-im.de/imb/pdf/pboxx-pixelboxx-29086/datei.pdf The K definitely has the smallest tack compartment because of the front ramp.

@Gardenhorse Many many thanks for this. I found some brochures, but this is much more comprehensive.

I’ll touch base before I go. Hubby is getting our SUV serviced soon, and then I’ll plan a visit after that. Will depend on what they have in stock, of course

I had a 2017 K with the tack compartment, which is 35cm smaller in front than the L in similar configuration, and a tack trunk would have fit in front of the horses but blocked the ramp and would have been right in front of their feet. There is zero possible way it would have fit inside the tack compartment.

I just put it in the truck bed or back of SUV depending on what vehicle I was driving. Bonus, it did not get covered in hay from the horses eating right above it.

the new dressing room model is quite expensive to just have a place to put a trunk. I would just put your stuff in your car if the built in situation didn’t work.

@soloudinhere oh did you get rid of your trailer? If so, would you be ok saying why?

I agree that getting the dressing room model doesn’t make a lot of sense. The big portax is significantly more expensive and the LSR doesn’t have enough room for the horses in front of the chest bars.

Did you find having the front unload ramp to be significantly worth it? There will be times where I arrive alone and I was thinking being able to unload out the front much easier. But then again, I could just invest some time in teaching my horse to self unload.

I don’t mind - I have an F250 which is just too much truck and the trailer bounced around behind it. So I bought a gooseneck 2+1

the front ramp was great and i wouldnt have one without it. So convenient and so is the convertible back door.

They were super helpful in helping me design the dream trailer. The $500 mounting block remains the best upgrade to date–definitely get one, you won’t regret it!

Yes, get the fold down mounting step. Have it installed at order if you can it was a little tricky to install.
