books on course design?

I need more things to do that are not on a computer screen, and I also need to get better at memorizing jump courses. Does anyone have any suggestions on books on course design? My theory is if I can figure out the logic of designing one I might have a better shot of finding my way through one. I’m much more interested in jumpers but wouldn’t rule out something on hunter courses.

I’m also up for other ideas for improving course memorization/navigation that can be done off of a horse.

I don’t have any good recommendations on books but the best way I have found to memorize courses is this: go through the course in your head as how it would look in “real life” riding it, not looking at it from the side if that makes sense. I am really bad at memorizing and this really fixed it for me. It’s almost like I’ve ridden the course already. Don’t just start at the first jump. Imagine entering, your opening circle if you have one, down to the closing circle. It also makes me more aware of where I may have trouble and how to ride each element.

I know you said you want off screen, but I figured I would mention it. FEI has online courses including one on course design. https://campus.fei.org/course/info.php?id=7

All three of these suggestions look great! Thanks!
