Who here has a boom in their wash stall? Like and dislikes? Also where did you mount the boom? Most of the pics I see online have them mounted center wall on right side.
I love mine. Kept that hose out of horse’ hooves, and is lighter to operate since you don’t have to drag the hose around. Some horses may give it a second look at the beginning so you want to watch out the first time to use it. All our horses including the young ones got accustomed to it very fast though.
We have ours mounted on the wall right next to the faucet. You want it mounted some where on the center of the wall to allow the full swivel.
I have one, I like the concept and the idea, but the one we have only allows for a light duty hose. I found a sturdier looking one on line and will be trying that one on the new farm.
We use them at our boarding barn and they are helpful. Certainly they cut down on hose replacements! The horses don’t seem to be bothered by them as long as you introduce them thoughtfully-
I have hoses made for ours at an industrial hose shop. That way I can buy just the length needed (I think they’re 15’) in a high quality hose that will fit down the boom tubes. These hoses are long enough to do the job, but not so long that there is a lot of hose to drape on the ground and get stepped on.
In a decade, we have replaced 3 of the 5 boom hoses once, if I recall. That’s pretty good considering the use they get.
I bought mine from eNasco but can’t find them online now; they are similar to this one from Smartpak:

We didn’t have a wall to mount the boom on, so I just ran a hose up the beam by the spigot, curved it to run under a rafter and attached it to the rafter with zip ties. Then I used a 90* attachment at the end right above where the horse stands, so as not to kink it, and attached a 15’ hose to that. The hose was above the horse, so no tangling underfoot, but it did not swivel like a boom… It worked just fine, and was super cheap - the only purchase I made was the $5 90* male-to-female attachment. It didn’t look redneck, either.
I have a boom that is mounted on the ceiling and swings all around the horse. I prefer it to the ones mounted on the wall on one side of the horse. A local fabricator made it based on a picture of one I’d seen in a barn in Tryon.
I have one and like it. Same reason as the others --keeps the hose out from under the horse’s hooves.
I have one and love it!
I boarded at a barn with a boom. I liked it. My horse will deliberately step on the hose to shut the water off so I have to hold it up off the ground to prevent him from doing it.
Both wash stalls at the bard we board at have hose booms, mounted center on the partition between the two stalls which is where the water sources are. The barn we previously boarded at also had a boom in the wash stall, although it was mounted in a rear corner.
We have one in ours, mounted on the back wall. It swings out of the way to the right - we put a hose “hook” where you hook the hanging end of the hose and it keeps it from swinging back into the center.
We also use quick disconnect hose fittings. That way you can change between the washing machine, hose boom, and hooking directly to the hot or cold faucets.
