I have recently been appointed Joint Master of our hunt. I have a pair of top boots (la Mundial) that have zippers. I also have a pair of proper dress Dehners. I don’t really want my zippered boots to be my “first string” (though I do appreciate them sometimes). For $250, Dehner will put tops on my good old dress boots and even out the Spanish tops. But that leaves me without plain, black dress boots.
How often will I miss my black dress boots? Should I pay big money (that I don’t really have) for new top boots? Or get by without dress boots until I can accumulate some at a lower price? My calves (nee, steers) are so large that stock boots never work.
Congrats! I do use my plain dress boots when I go visiting other hunts. I have crappy dress boots and had removable patent tops made. They sort of velcro in on the pull tabs. I think it depends on how often you would need plain boots.
Congratulations!
Unless things have changed, Dehner will make removable boot tops. They pull over the top of the boot and have a little snap inside. You can’t feel the snap as it is flush. They are pretty snug and secure - no shifting or bunching or anything.
