Boot zippers won't stay zipped

Boots appear to be the correct size for me. They don’t have the little feed through tab at the top that I have seen on some brands. As I ride the zippers unzip themselves. Yesterday I glanced down to find my left boot had almost entirely unzipped itself. Is there anything I can do to help keep my zippers up?

Sounds like you need to have the zipper replaced.

Goodness I hope not, the boots are only 3 weeks old.

Black electrical tape just under the zipper top.

Have the zippers replaced is the best long term solution. Alternatively, get a small hair tie and put it on the zipper tab, put the tab that snaps behind the knee through it. I know someone that did that for awhile.

Return the three week old boots because the zippers don’t work

I’m having trouble imagining that level of faulty zipper…for me, boots unzipping is always because they don’t fit. Definitely if they are too small in the calf, or they might be the right size, but wrong shape for the specific leg.

Using a string or elastic through the zipper works “okay” if the fit is not too terrible–put it through the base of the zipper, not the pull, so the zipper will stay up higher.

I had this problem and solved it by taking a piece of number string (the kind you get at a show I mean) and looping it through the zipper tab. Then running the top snap through the loop of the string. The zipper will still drop a little bit, but not enough to make a problem.

You don’t need the entire zippers replaced, just the pull tab. I had the exact same problem and the person who does my leather work simply changed the pulls and I’ve had zero problems since. Cheap, too

First I’d ask :

Are they really pulled all the way up to begin?

My right boot did that sporadically. I put a piece of baling twine through the pull tab and made sure it was all the way up, snapped the tab and never have had an issue since.

I would not do repairs to 3 week old boots. Send them back.

They are custom made DeNiros that I ordered from the UK, so I can’t exactly just send them back. They fit me well, zip up really easily, but about half way through my rides they like to unzip themselves. I am worried about the zipper itself scratching my saddle.

If they are custom and 3 weeks old you must def send them back. Yes- you can.

This could be the problem… If the the part tha t keeps the two tracks f the zipper gets loosened/starts to separate the zipper will come undone. so it is something to look at …I took a friend’s pair to get replaced and all the show repairman did was tight the pull tab. he could have replaced he whole zipper but said it didn’t need it. it was $10 for that… versus $80 to replace the zipper.

I have found that my Ariat’s that have the extra leather loop (which i didn’t realize what it was for until a month ago… yeah I totally feel like an Idiot) stay up just fine when riding, But my schooling ariat’s don’t have that tab and will usually start to fall by the end of the ride. I will try the hair tie suggestion.
