If you have wide feet, State Line Tack carries most sizes of the Ariat Terrains in a wide width. They are my favorites and I wear them for hiking, walking, at the barn, etc. Before I retired my mare, I rode in them with half chaps from JustChaps in the UK - they have a wide range of sizes and are well-made.
I’ve been waiting and waiting for rain to try my new H2O Terrains out in. Finally today we had some (before I woke up but later on the grass was still nice and wet, with some puddles).
I had a nice walk and came home with my feet as snug and dry as when I set out. I love how the raindrops beaded up on the leather just like it does on my rubber wellies.
These Terrains are more comfortable for walking than my wellies are. I don’t know how warm they’ll be as it looks like winter is finally over here (too soon for me but oh well). I love walking in wet grass and through puddles and in the rain, so I’m looking forward to our next rain (maybe tomorrow, maybe next week).
Thanks to all of you for your Terrains info! I really love these, and I feel confident they’ll last at least as long as my previous (nonwaterproof) Terrains did.
Now to find a horse to ride in them …
I rode in my other Terrains years ago with half chaps, until I switched to a western saddle. I don’t remember the brand of the half chaps. Tredstep Ireland, IIRC.
Hey Y’all,
To throw another thing in the mix-there’s a company called Drillshed that gets MT Horse boots from England and they have some similar but not the same as my old pair. They’re Wild River and don’t have insulation. I got a pair in black and am gonna wear them hunting-not quite correct according to the guidelines at our hunt but the Masters are pretty easy about stuff.
I think I’m gonna get some Ariat terrain boots for every day tho.
This is an informative thread!

Another vote for the Ariat Terrain’s. I walk what seems like 100 miles a day in them and ride just as much and my feet stay nice and comfortable.
Yet another vote for the Ariat H20 I have two pair and I love love love them!!
I’ve worn Terrains for years. I can do my barn chores and then ride without changing footwear.
I will add that Kerrits has some footwear as well that’s worth checking out.
Mountain Horse is another option.
Years ago I tried Ariat terrains and they looked old after first week in the barn and didn’t last, fell apart in a few months.
Mountain Horse lasted much longer.
Tried Ariat terrain again and same, just didn’t held up, so quit them.
Have some Ariat cowboy boots that are ancient and still look like new.
Dear Y’all,
So I have agonized an absurd amount of time over this!!! I was just gonna buy from Ariat, but had a size question and my phone said their customer service number was international-rates will apply! -and when I held on anyway it said out of service -I tried multiple times. So I found the boots on Horse Loverz and I hear they have a really long delivery time.
Now I do remember that folks 20 years ago were saying Ariat quality had gone down. Any votes for Mountain Horse? Ugh, I hate being indecisive!!!

Dear Yall,
Another question-can you wear half chaps over the Mountain Horse Mountain Rider Classic rider boots? The ankle looks sort of puffy.
Thanks!
Huntin’Fool
It depends which half chaps. I have short wide calves so I order from Just Chaps in the UK. All of them so far have fit over wide width Ariat Terrain H20s.
