Boots for the small but wide men's feet

I’ve decided to treat myself to a nice pair of western boots as a reward for not going totally mental while being off with my trashed ankle. The problem is, I have small-but-wide feet (I take a men’s 6 MAYBE 7, depending on the toe shape) and a somewhat high instep/arch. I also have decently thick calves and have been known to go up a foot size in gumboots in order to accommodate them. It’s REALLY hard to find size 6 around here, finding 7s isn’t much better. 5s are easy (youth boots), as are 8s.

There are also few, if any, local stores that sell western boots. Lots of english tack shops, but the island (especially down my way) is overrun with hunter/jumpers and dressage queens.

I’m looking for a nice, multi-discipline boot that I can wear both as a day-to-day boot, as well as to school and potentially do some local schooling shows (I’m only just getting into western “officially” once I’m given the green light to ride again in the next few weeks). Western disciplines that interest me include reining, gaming, and western style dressage.

What brands (and styles) are generally good for a foot like mine? I have a pair of Ariat lace-ups that someone gave me, but they’re SUPER narrow so I’m never going to fit into them. Apparently it’s not uncommon for Ariat boots to fit quite narrow?

Thanks for any input you can offer.

Anderson Bean

Ariat Sierra. Short shaft (good for those with big calves), available in sizes 6 and 7, EE width.

My younger son had wide feet and had good luck with Ariat’s EE width boots.

Custom aren’t always that much more than good mid range boots. I know several people with hard to fit boots that have gone that route and ended up with just what they needed.

Kroops in MD. I have wide feet and bunions, but normal lower legs. I got the high heeled exercise boots, and they look just like western boots when you have pants on. They are a little pricey, but extremely well made, extremely comfortable and last a very very long time. I bought a pair of paddock boots and they lasted over 15 years. The exercise boots are specifically made for race track exercise riders so they come with an ankle patch, but you can order them without the ankle patch.
