Boots - vent

I had a similar problem. Long leg and 18" muscular calves. I was getting the fuller fillies but they wouldn’t last more then a year and a half at $200 so I broke down and got custom.
You might be able to get away with semi custom, (I couldn’t because my feet are different sizes), however I only paid $1,100 for fully custom!

I suggest hunting online tack shops in the UK/EU. I have found that there are many sizes available there, that we don’t get here. Don’t know why. I ordered a pair of the new Dublin Galtymore but needed a short/wide because regular was too tall. No body in the US had them. Found them in the UK… ordered on Sunday… had boots in hand on Wed. Even Amazon couldn’t beat that service. I also see that there are other brands there that are pocket book friendly that we dont see here.

Slightly off topic, but Woody’s of Wellington or Pisano and Son might be a good options for repairing your zipper long distance. If you happen to pass through Raleigh, NC, we have an incredible shoe repair shop that is top notch with riding boots that would be great–Man-Mur on Hillsborough St.

I feel your pain, I’m tall with size 12 feet and large calf. I’ve never been able to buy off the rack. My last pair of Cavallo’s were really soft on the inside and only lasted a year. I bought some custom boots from Denher and so far (about 10 rides in) I’m really happy and they seem like they’ll last. Even with the customs tax to import to Canada it was cheaper than the Cavallos. Just be careful when you google Dehner, they seem to be popular for other, ahem, leather goods.

(Mondo waves at digi) Thanks. I will do! <3

I too am glad you posted. I feel your pain - I have a size 7 foot, a 15 1/2 calf, and a leg that is about 17 1/2 tall from the knee on down. They just don’t make boots to fit these proportions. I am 5’6" and about 140 lbs and I used to be a sprinter back in the day (I went to high school in the 70s) and did a lot of hiking, so my calves are pretty muscular.
The tall boots I have now are semi-custom that I got from some fox hunting shop in Arkansas - I found their website, and ordered from there - they were about $500 but that was back in 2005 - (I’ve made these things last by using paddocks and half chaps for schooling)
But they won’t last forever - and will need to replace them soon. . . . I can’t remember the name of the shop - so it’s nice to hear that there are maybe some options besides the breath taking thousands one would have to spend for customs. . .

I had to go custom for a stiff boot, but if you’re willing to go softer, tredstep, mountain horse and tuff rider might work. I too thought off the rack was impossible, but not true. I’ve also found that the soft boots stretch considerably, so even if you are an inch or more wider than the size chart, give it a shot. I bought through a company with a good return policy.

19 inch calf here, and I second this!!! Inexpensive and so far have held up well!

Update: I had the Petries resoled and wow! Not only are they as good as new, but he polished them up and they look and feel just fantastic! I have boots for quite some time now while I save up for custom! Woohoo!

Mondo, that sounds like a great deal. Seems like boot quality has gone downhill quite a bit, at least for some brands. The way custom boot prices are these days I guess you may have to save up for a while!

Thanks for that, Jen. I’d like to have the zipper repaired if I can, before it is blown completely. I used to pass through Raleigh years ago as part of my job. Lovely area. However, being from New England we found ourselves unable to do that after May and before October on account of the heat and humidity.
