Box fan w/Enclosed motor?

The website says it has a completely sealed housing and is suitable for outdoor use. But you’re right, it’s not clear if it has the UL507 rating

Those fans are larger (even the smallest) than the average box fan. So that also adds to the price.

It just seems like there is frequently someone looking for a box fan that is suitable for a barn applications.

Even the smallest fan there is larger than the typical box fan so that too adds to the price.

It just seems like a missed market, but clearly I do not make fans so…

here is the manual for that fan… it shows to be UL labeled

and the UL Listing is repeatedly pro-calmed in this Home Depot product description

We’re talking about the 18" NewAir fan

They say it’s got a sealed motor but it does not appear to carry the UL507 listing.

its ETL listed which is an alternative listing authority that uses the same criteria but it owns interpenetration of the criteria… ETL and UL have equal footing with Consumer Protection Agency

manual for that fan… ETL Listed is one the cover page

Good to know! Certainly a really nice price point

I have never seen a sealed motor box fan. I have the 18” wall-mount fans. I put mine in a regular, nylon hay net and hang them.

I bought a 14" Durafan a few years ago and wish I had bought one sooner. It moves way more air, AND it’s actually quieter than the cheap box fans.

might be because obtaining an ETL listing costs about 2/3rds or less than obtaining a UL Testng listings… both are private organizations that people confuse as being government sanctioned

Thank you everyone.

Besides the sealed motor, I always look for thermal overload protection in the description. They usually go together but not always. When it gets really really hot, I’ve watched them automatically turn off and then turn back on once they cool down. No fire thank goodness.

I got mine from Tractor Supply. They aren’t box fans and are pricey but super easy to put up and well worth the peace of mind. I picked mine up in store but I know they ship too
