Today is the first sunny day I’ve seen in about a week. So just wondering if anyone got to go hunting today.
It poured yesterday after several previous days of rain, with quite a bit of flooding, so no hunting for us today. Also, it is, and has been for a few hours, raining again, so we will see if we even get to go out Monday, as the fixture is a low-lying area.
I understand that the only NoVa’ish hunt to go out today (first in many days) was Blue Ridge Hunt, reportedly in their more shale-y country. But,reportedly, it might not have been the best idea …
We (Old Dominion Hounds) hunted on foot (basically, walked down the dirt road and back) then had a puppy play-date and an impromptu flask contest and Xmas cookies. It was certainly fun and nice to get out for a brisk walk and neat to hang out with hunting folks in a hunting situation but not on horseback.
I’m betting we’re all canceled thru Wednesday but then the long-range forecast gets colder (at least enough to firm the ground if not freeze it) and a drying trend.
I have 12 freshly clipped, freshly shod horses standing at ready … sigh …
North Country Hounds, way up here in Vermont, (and my new hunt!) went out today. Gorgeous weather. They are really freaking out they got in a Boxing Day hunt. Normally they’re shut down by early December. My cunning plan to avoid teh Global Warmz by moving north is succeeding…
Our hunt down here in Texas was entirely rained out; tornadoes touched down not far from our fixtures. Everyone including horses and hounds are safe, but it will definitely be flooded for a while.
