Bit surprised to see no mention of this podcast on here?

So much was discussed but overall thought it was interesting.

On one hand Boyd saying men don’t have an advantage in eventing and then admitting Silva is primary care giver to their kids and has downsized her business because of it!

I was amused by his comments on Will Coleman. Who knows who is right.

I thought many of Boyd’s comments about working hard, making the most of opportunities and being grateful rang true. He also said only 5 people in the states were any good at training young riders so would be interesting to have a guess at who!

Heels down happy hour also had a good one with jess Payne who discussed how they do their ownership shares and that’s Doug was vetted for the Pan Ams after KY! Great news there.

I think that was Jessica Redman (Benchmark Sport Horses) on May 6, 2019. Totally agree Jealoushe - absolutely fabulous and very informative discussion.

There was also a fantastic discussion on the Eventing Radio Show with respect to Woodge Fulton about her trip to Germany to train with Dirk Schrade. Good discussion near the end with respect to their raising of young horses versus the North American model. I’m paraphrasing but something along the lines of us starting our young horses earlier (in their 4 year old year) but the Germans waiting to start them until early in their 5th year. The young horses then feeling much better schooled and mature even though they’ve only been under saddle for 3 months instead of a year. Interesting food for thought.

It was a very interesting week across the podcasts, that’s for sure!

We also had Chris Burton on the equiratings podcast publicly saying the sport should move to the short format at the championship level and that tempis and half canter pirouettes should be added to the dressage tests.

OMG please emerge from your cave! There’s some great eventing and horse related stuff, but the best stuff is actually the NPR produced ones like Serial and S-Town. I wish so bad I was you and could be a naiive listener all over again! You’ll love them!

Podcasts are all I listen to now, unless I take a break for an audio book! I’m sure there is a ton of new music and I’m missing it all, because there are so many great podcasts to download!

Major League Eventing has really captured my interest – they do a good job in focusing on how riders got started and then how they run their career/barns today. The latest live with Boyd was really very good. and I thought Boyd had really great advice especially about how tough the industry is, but how you can do it if you are willing to put in the work.

The Eventing Radio Show is one I’ve listened to for years, and also enjoy Retired Racehorse Radio, Turnout, and Horseman’s University are all good.

It sure makes cleaning stalls more interesting!

Yes.

It’s basically radio without local boundaries. You get to select any program you would like to listen to, and listen to it whenever you want to. You can select just one episode, or subscribe to all the content on a particular channel.

The podcast universe basically has unlimited topics and content because people who want to do a podcast program don’t have to find a station and a time slot. And from a wide variety of people.

The total volume of topics and content can be a bit overwhelming at first, but if you are just searching on one area of interest, you can find what you’d like, usually in abundance.

Loved Boyd’s openness and honestly with his thoughts and opinions. Lots of great equestrian podcasts at he moment but Major League Eventing has quickly become my favourite

Equiratings - this is excellent when Sam Watson discusses subjects. The Chris Burton one was 😱 but he would want harder dressage! Still an interesting topic and I love Frank discussion.

Major league eventing - this is excellent. I feel sad that some are too short. The boyd one was excellent as such a range of subjects and discussing the sport in an honest way. Bucks was excellent. Tbh I prioritise this one now.

About halfway through the Boyd podcast (2.5 hrs!!). For those who have listened, I am curious to know what you thought of their discussion on male vs female. Maybe I am hypersensitive due to the heightened ongoing political discourse on gender and equality, but I was disappointed to come away feeling like Rob and Boyd were a bit archaic in their views…even if “archaic” just infers limited critical thought on the issue. Any other thoughts on this from those of you who heard it?

I did speak with them recently and gave an interview on Tb’s. I think we could have talked forever on the subject. They are a great group of people and I really appreciate what they do.

Do I think there is sexism in the sport? maybe but its not as overt like other sports such as show jumping where men have a very distinct advantage over women in getting ahead.

I think women in eventing have to be much more careful in creating their media profile and sometimes do not get as much traction. On the whole I think there is a fair amount of parity in how people got to the top in eventing in both men and women.

I know that Sam Watson made some comments on ‘Girl Power’ recently saying actually he was anti this acknowledgement of girl power but has since come to realise that women are consistently marginalised in sport and so we should be supporting their achievements. We have also seen it with Piggy French and Jonelle Price about the baby thing. Its not like Jonelle was shoddy before having a baby. Having the baby has not made a difference to her being a world class athlete.
