BPM for the Muscially Challenged

First, let me say: YES! I know about Mike’s site, so please don’t just throw me a link there. I want different music that you won’t find on his site.

That said, I’m trying to put together some music to stick on my iPod and I have NO clue how to figure out the BPM of a song.

I’m hearing impaired and musically challenged, so can someone please explain it in a “For Dummies” manner?

Thank you!
Eileen

Try here: http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm

Just listen to the music and tap to the beat –

There are some websites that post the bpm of songs. Try googling the name of the song and “bpm” and you might get lucky.

See, now this is the problem – WHICH beat? Bass? Drums?

Frustrates me because I can dance – I can feel the beat. Just don’t ask me to count it, cause I don’t know how. Never had to.

Going to try this, thanks!

Ruth Poulsen just had an article about that in her free newsletter.

Check this out; http://beats-per-minute.suggestsoft.com/ and I think it’s free

Hey, Jane

I’ll check that out, too. I want to learn how to do this myself; IF I can.

Okay, now I’m confused.

The software tells me that Billy Idol’s Dancing with Myself is 177.4 BPM, but Mike Matson’s site says that it is 88 BPM.

ARGH!

Help?

Eileen

ETA: okay, so what . . . do I divide it by 2, which would give me 88.5, because the trot is a two-beat gait?

Jane,

Ruth’s newsletter tip on your site says: “• Trot 138-160 BPM

which doesn’t sync with Mike’s site. His trot music stops at 98 BPM.

I think I need Mike’s input here.

Going to go hunt down Ruth’s newsletter.

Her website is www.ruthhoganpoulsen.com

You rock, Jane!

Thanks

Mike’s site is completely out of sync. But you should take in consideration that at the trot you can choose a BPM based on one frontleg instead of both frontlegs.

Also, when you download all these softwareprograms you will find out that they don’t agree with eachother.:cool:
