I am braiding a horse for the Hampton Classic. I have braided tails before but have never had to put in a fake tail. One question is, Do you put in the fake tail before or after you braid? And my other question is, Once the tail is braided and fake tail in, how do you tie it up? Any advise would be much appreciated!
There are lots of videos on Youtube.
I always put the fake in first, the attachment has to be snug to the tailbone so it doesn’t swing unnaturally. Your tail braid is going to end up going over the top of the fake. Braid and finish your braid the same as you always do.
Some people put the fake in after and pull it up into the braid. I don’t like doing this as I’ve seen them fall out. I braid the horses own tail around the attachment loops of the fake and then I do a couple wraps of electrical tape. This way the fake can be used with or without a tail braid.
Also besides braiding the loops into the real hair I do a small French braid with that hair down and I cooperate so,e of the real and fake hair together. This really locks them together and gets them to move more naturally
Always before braiding.
Youtube has quite a few good videos on how to do it. Fake Tail in first. My daughter uses Youtube on her phone when she gets stuck.
