Brand ID Help?

I know two brand inspectors (well, I’ve met them), one in MT and one in OR. They don’t just check brands, they check any paperwork that identifies the animal. Two horses that I traveled with back in the 90’s had what I would call a passport. A brand inspector came to my barn and checked their registrations and bills of sale, they took pictures of the horses, and in about a month I received laminated ‘passports’. It helped when going through a state that wanted horse trailers to enter their port of entry.

In the photo she seems to have short legs for the depth of her body, does she appear that way IRL or is it the angle of the photo?

Also, knowing almost nothing about Standardbreds having only seen them on TV, racing, do they often have white socks? I don’t remember seeing any that had them, though my sample size is quite small. @texarkana, you know Standardbreds, what say you?
Not a dainty head for sure. So Standardbred DHH could be, but I’m still puzzled about those legs.

Poor girl, glad she found her way to you.

LOL, thanks @skydy but what I know about Standardbreds can fit in a thimble. There are far more knowledgeable than me here!

They can have white, though. That’s not uncommon. They also can be really variable in appearance anymore. My last two Standardbreds were very typey, but my new one looks like a TB or a cross or anything but an stb.

There are also a lot of Amish folks breeding Standardbreds for strictly buggy purposes. The Amish folks I know don’t brand, but maybe that’s a thing somewhere?

So who knows! I’m glad the horse got a soft landing!

She doesn’t look like a standardbred.
And I think she is going to be gorgeous once back to health.
Thank you for helping her out.

You all are so kind and helpful, thanks! :blue_heart:

Yes, she is certainly a bit long-bodied - but the angle of the photo probably makes her legs look a bit shorter than they really are. Here is a photo from yesterday that hopefully gives a better idea of her conformation. (she’s now been here for two weeks, still not a huge fan of quarantine - but an absolute sweetheart overall).

She’s black beauty! I see those white marks on her withers and back and I want to whisper to her that no one will ever hurt her again.
