Brand ID Help?

Picked up this mid-teens buggy mare over the weekend because apparently I have zero impulse control when someone calls saying they’ve got a horse needing a soft landing. Owner claimed she’s full Standardbred, but her conformation and trot are telling me there’s something else here. X? Maybe with a DHH (don’t know much about that breed)?
She’s freeze branded (on the hip, not a racing STB tattoo) and I’m hoping one of you brand experts can help me figure out what it is.
Sweet mare, smart, tries hard, a bit reactive and spooky right now (and super not thrilled about being in quarantine).
Appreciate any insight y’all can throw my way. Thanks!

Poor thing.
I am no help with the brand but just wanted to thank you for giving her a soft landing.

It looks like an S and a J?

There is a facebook group for identifying horse brands that would probably be the most help. Those folks can search through the different states’ books pretty fast.

Super! Thanks, I’ll try to find the group.

I am excited to see her glow up if you want to share her progress.

What are you calling her?

Thank you for giving her a soft landing.

Thank you!
She came with the name “Star” - which she seems to know well so we’re keeping it (even though it’s a bit “on the nose”…

I have some time today, so I’ve been going through states’ registered brands. This is the closest I’ve found so far, but I’m not done. The cross on the “J” looks bigger on the mare, so…

She’s going to be a handsome mare when she gets some weight and is polished up. She’s a lucky girl.

Oh wow, thank you SO much for taking the time to do this!!

And the ND ones do look close for sure! (and we’re in the upper Midwest so it wouldn’t be that far away…). Thanks again!

Oh, and something I didn’t notice/understand right away. Some tattoos can be used for strictly cattle, horses, or both. However, (some?/all?) cattle brands are located on specific parts of the body. I googled “brand locations” when it was mentioned somewhere. It offered, maybe, 6-8 descriptions, among which were both cattle and horse brands.

I haven’t gone back to the ones I’ve listed above to see if the brand locations (if offered) match your horse.

Here are some of the brand locations I’ve seen so far:

RSH, LRC, RHC, LSH, RSS, LHC, LTH, BS, LJH, LTC.

And this doesn’t help (me) much:

Brand Locations - Livestock Identification Services Ltd.

might check with your state’s horse auction requirements as horse auctions in Texas are required to have brand inspectors where the inspector will check the horse for brands and other identifying marks to ensure ownership.

This is where I started; don’t know if there are other sites to start from.
