Brazilian Olympic Showjumping team

Don’t have a printed source but I believe Zanotelli’s Cash del Mar Z was put on the injured list after having to retire in the second round at Falsterbo. And allow me to make the sexist remark that along with the lack of Gregory Wathelet, Olympic show jumping is losing its dimpliest smiles. What fun is that. Will have to go watch Carl and Charlotte.

Also, wasn’t Frank Chapot the chef d’equipe for the '84 Olympics? (Sorry, this is pre-supershorty and I don’t know off the top of my head). Why is GM making comments about how he chose the team?
Frank coached the US team to Olympic gold in '84, there was a wonderful photo of him celebrating that win in his NY Times obituary.

Its quite funny because doda and gm had a rather hilarious falling out years ago and hadn’t spoken in years.
Was that when Doda and Athina hired GM to be their coach? The partnership didn’t last long… something to do with how they didn’t utilize him that much and only wanted him to walk courses with them?

(PS was pretty shocked to not see Rodrigo on the team. Bad move to not use his experience at that level on a good horse!)

Its actually the specific incident that ended that arrangement haha two guys with big egos was never going to last long.

I am unclear — Did Rodrigo compete at the 2 selection events? If so, how did he do?

There really weren’t two exclusive selection events, George is now just saying he was looking at falsterboro and LA boule.

Pedro Veniss showed at neither.

Rodrigo did show falsterboro.
Menezes did show falsterboro.

Doda showed both. Because those are basically the only bigger shows he’s done since Athina left him.
Stephan showed both.

I did one of those awesome course-walk-with-a-sponsored-rider at the Saut Hermes in Paris with Pedro Veniss earlier this year. He was so excited about the prospects of the team, especially Rodrigo. I remember he very specifically said he felt strongly this was Rodrigo’s moment and how excited he was for him to really shine in front of the home crowd. To say that to me, a complete stranger, signified for me what a foregone conclusion Rodrigo’s being on the team was. And what a class act Pedro is to root so strongly for his teammate.

Although I do not agree at all with the decision, I have to feel a little bad for the poor kid caught in the middle of all this. He likely grew up idolizing Rodrigo and Neco and dreamed of some day being on team. He probably would have hoped to be doing so under different circumstances.

This is a really big omission IMO. One that I think was influenced by someone besides GM.
