Brazos Valley Hunt

I closed out my 2010-2011 season by driving 4 1/2 hours to cap with the Brazos Valley Hunt today. The masters, Terry Olsen and Sue Dixon showed me great hospitality, and I give Sue my award for best looking hounds in Texas! We went out with 16 1/2 couple, the largest group I’ve followed, so far. This hunt is about 75 miles west of Fort Worth. You might think this would be prairie, and you’d almost be right, but this fixture (owned by a couple who hail from where I live) is in what is called the “cross timbers”. This is a belt of post oak forest only about 10 miles wide. It’s really great because you can see thru the forest, unlike most of the southern half of Texas which is choked with yaupon. Now, time to start getting ready for next season!

Sounds like a real good time!

Does Rita still hunt with them? She used to hunt with the Artillery hunt as a Whip.

Yeah, I met everyone, but there were too many for me to remember. I remember Sue Bailey because we talked quite a bit, and I was struck by the fact that she said she had been hunting off-and-on since the '60s.

I wonder if any COTH members are members of BVH. (?)
