Break through estrus on Regumate - Options?

So until this weekend my mare has been happily maintained on Regumate to combat a very painful estrus cycle. Unfortunately she appears to have busted through a fair dose for her size and has a lovely follicle as observed on ultrasound to be bred. Except that is not my goal with her as a sport horse for now.

My vet is consulting with a repro specialist as to our next steps but figured I’d throw it out here. Has anyone else experienced this? Other maintenance options?

Are you using the injectable or oral?

I meant to come back and update this!! Mare struggled from ~Jan to about 2 weeks into April and then like a light switch was back to her normal rideable self. So we have some options to try going forward.

She was on oral Regumate but we will be switching to injectable on recommendation from Repro vet. She’ll be on that starting next week and see how we go.

If things go haywire next winter again next option is the iUPOD for the ā€˜transition season’. Repro specialist knows the vet at UMASS that developed it and has had success with it. I’m also doing some investigation into the Equilume light mask as perhaps that could be used to ā€˜switch’ her body into the summer mode instead of the gradual increase in light (she lives outside 24/7).

Happy to update this post with success/failures. I found little to help me so would love to share for others.

My mare also has very painful cycles. I previously had her on Regumate then took her off while she was rehabbing. Before putting her back on it, I thought I would try another route that I’d heard of and put her on Evitex (the ā€œoriginalā€ liquid chasteberry supplement from Emerald Valley). I was skeptical that it would do anything but I have to say it works remarkably well. Not as well as Regumate, but it does make a noticeable difference in her comfort level. So maybe consider that in addition to the Regumate?
