Breaking in DeNiro Boots

I ordered a pair of DeNiro Salento custom boots that just arrived a few days ago (yay!). They’re my first pair of custom boots and I’ve been wearing them around the house to try and break them in but I’m wondering if they’re too tall. They zipped up easily and fit perfectly right out of the box but as I’ve never had customs before, I wasn’t sure if that was to be expected or if that was a sign that they were too big and would stretch further.

I know there will be a drop once they break in, but right now when I sit down in them there is a big crease that goes from the button on the snap closure at the top to, almost, the silver DeNiro logo on the side at the top. For those of you that have these boots, is this normal? About how much did your boots drop?

Are you using heel lifts?

No but should I be?

Yes, you should use heel lifts, especially if they’re a little too tall. I also make sure, when I zip new boots up (since I always buy boots that are too tall) to zip them past my ankle and then “skooch” them down so that they wrinkle at the ankle rather than creasing up high (this won’t work, however, if they’re killer tight). I just bought a pair of Tredsteps for daily wear that came taller than I expected that I’ve had to do this with. I’ve been riding in them for about a week, and between soaking the ankle -> top in warm water before I put them on (it’s my modified-for-colder-weather-bathtub-break-in-alternate) and skooching them down before I zip up the upper half, they are now broken in exactly how I want them.
