Breeches PSA: Still missing the Ariat Pro Circuit fit? Try these....

Thought I would let my fellow riders that are dismayed over the discontinuation of the Ariat Pro Circuits know there is a small glimmer of hope out there.

Give the Ovation Tayloreds a try. They aren’t perfect, but they are the first breeches I’ve tried that have not been huge in the waist and tight in the thighs. They are front zip and I prefer side, but I’ll take it. Bonus, you can get them in Rust fro Adam’s Horse Supply.

For reference. I’ve recently tried

Smart Pak Pipers - they were sooo bad. Cute, but the fit was awful, as was having to pull them up every five seconds.

Ovation Euroweave Celebrity (I think)

Tuff Rider Low rise Schooling Show Circuit and Ecogreen

TS Trophy Hunters: This is the best fit of those I’ve tried and what I’ve been wearing, but it’s still not my favorite.

And they are half the price of the TS.

I do love the Pro Circuits fit & I looks like they do come in side zip:winkgrin:

Saw that in a different catalog. I took the ordering risk for the Rust…and they were only listed in front zip.

Edited to add: The Ovations that I mention may have been the Tayloreds in the side zip…and they fit completely differently. If you look at the fit of the side vs the front even on the models, they are very different.

I can only coment on the front as that is what I just ordered, and what I was so happy with.

How is the material for handling sweat? One of the things I loved about Pro Circuits is that they tended to minimize the appearance of sweaty areas and dried out quickly after riding. The closest I’ve found to that are Tredstep breeches, but I don’t like how they fit in the waist. If the Ovations solve both problems, that would be awesome.

I got a pair of the Ovation Tayloreds in rust last month after someone on here mentioned them. Really happy with the fit, great for schooling, nice enough for schooling shows or a weekday jumper class. The material is more cottony than techy like the ProCircuits, though.

I just tried on the new RJ Classic Gulf breeches and I really really liked them. Those who liked the pro circuits might like them, too. $150 and some very pretty colors.

These were next on my list to try, but I liked the Rust option and the price…so tried the Tayloreds first. I bought the Rust and Indigo and might go back for the Boysenberry.

Hard to say. They are thicker than just cotton breeches but not quite as techy as the Pro Circuits. I would put them somewhere inbetween, but closer to the Pro Circuits than to cotton.

So, I checked:

Pro-Circuits:
82% Nylon
12% Coolmax Polyester
6% Spandex (aka Elastan)

TS Trophy Hunters
73% CO (Cotton)
20% PA (Polyamide)
7% EL (Elastan which is also known as spandex or lycra…or so a quick search shows))

Ovation Tayloreds:
63% Polyester
32% Viscose
5% Elastan

FWIW - They are still a bit big in the waist, but not even close to the TS. or others I’ve tried. I wear a belt, but mostly because they are lower in the rise…and I am not.

I’m with Halt Near X. I hate the look of sweat all over my breeches after riding in the southern summers. Can someone do a “flick” test? Just flick some water on them and see if it somewhat rolls off, or if it soaks in right away?

It’s SOOOO hard to find breeches that don’t look overly sweaty. My old Equine Coutures are good for that, but the don’t make this model anymore. :frowning: And I lost 30 pounds and they no longer fit.

! Agreed! It’s been 100 degrees with 80% humidity lately and we all joke that it looks like we peed our pants after our lessons ! So…anyone want to do a “flick” test?

PF - I found some Equine Couture breeches on (of all places!) Amazon that look like they’d almost repel water. I’m intrigued…

Do you know what the fabrics are and the percentages? I can tell you if they match mine. I really love mine just for that fact!

Yes, after my last lesson, I came in the house and thought, WT heck?? I was SOAKED. Embarrassing. Except I imagine everyone looks the same!

After another Amazon search I actually found several EC breeches! The Coolmax Champion breeches are 82% Nylon, 12& coolmax, 6% lycra. The Beatta breeches are the same, but instead of lycra, they’re 6% spandex. The Blakely and Natasha breech is 66% cotton, 26% nylon, 8% lycra. The superstar breech is 80% polyester, 12% coolmax, 8% spandex. Last, they have the Brittni which is 63% polyester, 32% viscose, and 5% spandex.

Any of these match the ones you have?

It IS embarrassing - but also totally inevitable in this heat! I don’t think there is any way of avoiding it!

The only breech (seriously, the only) that fits me is the TS Trophy Hunters. BUT, if anyone likes the midrise TS Trophy Hunters, you should try the Tredstep Hunter Classics. They are pretty much the same breech - same fit, material that I like better and a pricetag that is reasonable for everyday wear. Actually, I may like the Tredsteps better than the TS!

Okay, I just pulled mine out. They are 82% Nylon, 12% Coolmax, and 6% Lycra. I’m going to go ahead and just cinch these up with a belt and wear them for schooling even if they are too big. Maybe I should check and order a pair online, too. I will check it out.

Let me know how you like them. They’re functional.

I “flicked” water on both my Pro Circuits and the Ovation Tayloreds. I couldn’t see any difference. I did not sit around to see how fast they would dry.

just an FYI - Spandex and Lycra are the same thing, also known as Elastane. Lycra is DuPont’s brand name. Spandex is used in America mostly.

Love the ovation taylored. They fit those of us with some thighs. So comfy!!!
