Breeches question - fullseat vs. extended patch

Am currently riding in a borrowed, slightly slippery saddle and have been grateful for full seat breeches. Am shopping for another pair - how much less grippy are extended patch breeches? Material will be cotton or nylon blend.

I’m usually a quiet rider, but borrowed saddle has a different balance and is making my horse move much, much freer, bigger so I don’t want to be slipping about as I adjust to “new normal”. Am also working on conditioning saddle back to soft.

I like my full seats for butt rub protection

If you want super sticky maybe try the new silicon patch breeches. I never have because I don’t feel I need that much stick!

For me extended patch breeches are grippy enough. I prefer them because I can adjust my seat more easily.
The patches are deerskin or lambskin. There’s enough stick, but my seat bones aren’t locked in place.

I really prefer extended patch myself. Full seats are often TOO sticky. I love the Euroseats - they look like full seat, but are just “self-patched” on the butt. I think it is really a rider preference though…

I depend on the silicon full seat breeches to help me be secure in the saddle, BUT I am only riding on the flat.

I did notice when I was doing the “rider-pushup” exercise that, in the silicon full seat breeches, that the extra grip on the top of my thighs prevented me from smoothly going from a full push-up back to sitting in the saddle, as in I had to open up my upper thighs some to sink back into the saddle.

I do not remember having this problem in my FITS deer-skin full seat breeches, but then I found the FITS just too slippery for overcoming my various handicaps in the saddle (I have MS.) When I bought my silicon full seat breeches I gave my FITS breeches to my riding teacher, I liked everything else about the FITS but I slipped around in the saddle a lot less with the silicon full seat breeches (Kerrits.)

Thank you! I appreciate the responses. I think I’ll try the extended patch and see how I like that.

The only time I had the “glued to seat” experience was with deerskin full seats on a humid day, went to post and had the “bare leg stuck to vinyl seat” feeling. Although there are times that level of “stick” might be a good thing…

Oh yes, deerskin can be VERY sticky. I use to ride in deerskin tights (Aanstadt Das and Equissentials) because they are SO comfy, but mostly did the extended patch. I had a couple of pairs of full seats, and on a hot sweaty day, I could actually post out of my breeches - they were still stuck to the saddle, and I wasn’t! And silicon can be VERY sticky too.

Really depends on your riding style and personal preference, but I prefer less stick, more ability to move.

I don’t really like full seat breeches. I’d rather have the butt patches with extended knee patches. But everyone is different. You’ll have to try each and see how that works out for you.

But, hey…I train my horses in sweatpants.

My preference is to only ride in full seat deerskin. I don’t move.
