Breeches shopping filter- thigh pocket

Is there a (online) retailer that has a filter for thigh pockets when looking a breeches/tights?

I would find that incredibly helpful. While I love a traditional breech, the thigh pockets are so handy for everyday riding to keep my phone in and my phone falls out of traditional pockets.

You might try searching with the word “cargo”. Having said that, it used to work on the Riding Warehouse site but no longer does, don’t know why. I did find these on the RW site:

It seems like most tights have them now, but the breeches, no so much. I just ended up with a phone holder that I put on my belt when I need to.

I know there are alternatives out there. I guess I’m just hoping retailers see this thread and make a filter. :joy: You can filter for summer/winter, full seat/knee patch, tights/breeches, color, high/med/low waistline etc….it seems pocket type would be an obvious option as well.

Some breeches say “deep pockets” but even if my phone fits in them, I can’t easily get the phone out while riding due to the pocket opening being near the waistband and crease between my body and legs make an awkward obstacle without standing in the saddle. Thigh pockets are just so easy! FWIW, I would not show in thigh pockets but every other ride, they would be great!

I agree! I have some breeches with deep enough pockets that I can shove the phone down low enough to walk around, but not enough to ride comfortably (I have a Pixel 7, so average size smartphone).

I have to say the Willit tights on Amazon are so comfy for the price (like $35) and have a nice zippered thigh pocket, so the phone is totally secure, but I do like the structure of actual breeches when I’m not just farting around.

Breeches companies: MORE THIGH POCKETS!!

Amen!! I just got a pair of Horze Mira breeches (in paprika) from my local shop on a whim and love them! Comfy fabric, full seat, breeches structure, wide waistband and thigh pockets on each side for $90! I got frustrated when I went to Equinavia’s website to find more colors/similar options (ans it anppears to be an older line/model) and didn’t want to sort through 300+ results to see thigh pocket vs regular pockets.

Amen! I have a work phone I have to carry at all times, so I will only buy riding pants with not one but two thigh pockets(the second for my personal phone, though I often remove it for the actual ride). It is very hard to find that sometimes!

I have also joined this train. Offloaded all the ones that don’t have pockets, unless they are show-only breeches.

Many pikeur models have a thigh pockets. Free Ride breeches have fabulous deep thigh pockets on both sides, wear super well and are a nice medium weight - cover the lumps and bumps but are not too hot in sticky weather.

I love a thigh pocket! A lot of yoga pants have them. I have Iridion riding tights that have them. For when I need it, I use an arm band type holder for a cell phone around my calf. More thigh pockets please!

I’ve switched almost exclusively to riding tights for the pockets (also tights are hella comfy…). Mostly Kerrits. I’m often alone at the barn at night and like having my phone on me just in case.

I have two pairs of these breeches from Willow Equestrian (a really nice shop here in Ontario), and LOVE them! They are light, stretchy, comfortable, have worn well so far, and have the pocket you’re looking for!

Amen! Also, I hate when breeches/leggings only have one thigh pocket on one side. I like to keep my phone on the right and treats in the left. I’ve been surprised by a few that I assumed had pockets on both sides and didn’t.

I am aware of a few companies that specifically sell thigh pocket tights/breeches (free ride equestrian, lux eq, horzehoods, etc) but I would love to be able to easily browse thigh pocket options on Smartpak, Dover, Riding Warehouse, etc and order some when I get other, non-apparel supplies. I try to look at the picture in the preview but when the breeches aren’t a light color, it’s really hard to see if the pocket is on the thigh or not.

@SmartPak_Customer_Care - any chance of this filter becoming a thing?

I love the thigh pocket except…now. 100+ degree days (well 80’s-90s while I am at the barn) and the pocket turns into a puddle as I sweat against the phone. The thigh pocket works great any other time of the year.

For the summer I got one of these which works great.

I got some piper knit everyday breeches recently and I was surprised to find that they have deep traditional pockets and also thigh pockets. So four, generously sized pockets. My only complaint about the breeches is that I need to tuck in my shirt with them because the waistband is a little rough. But I tend to tuck in shirts with breeches anyway.
