I’m looking for breeches and/or riding tights that are ideal for those reaaaaally hot days. I’m going to be wearing these all day- during barn chore time and riding time, so they’ve got to be durable enough for barn work and also ideally as cheap as possible because they’re probably going to get really gross! Let me know if you have any recommendations. Thanks!

yoga pants are pretty much my go to riding wear in the summer, especially the ones with a side pocket for my phone

I like the tuffrider tights, but I have found that most brands of “tights” are pretty similar. I love them, find myself even wearing them to the barn to drive my pony in. More comfortable than jeans and I have so many of them laying around compared to jeans. At least they can still get some use. Though I do find that my friends like to spontaneously offer to let me ride their horses only on the days that I am wearing my jeans. Thinking I should keep a pair of tights in the car.

I love the Kerrits Ice Fil Tech Tights! Their pretty reasonably priced, come in quite a few colours, and mine have lasted years!

I get inexpensive cotton leggings and add grip using puffy paint (knee patches or even full seat). Very cool compared to any riding tights I’ve tried.

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone else had issues with tights bunching up inside the knee/above the boot line? I got a pair of the Piper tights last summer, and they do feel lighter weight, but no amount of pulling (up or down) seems to help the bunching issue. Are they just too big? I wear a 26/28 in TS, so I got the medium Pipers, but maybe I need the small? I’m tired of clenching my teeth in the shower after a ride when the water hits my raw skin. I’m also tired of the unsightly scars I now have on the inside of both knees. I don’t want to invest in other tights unless I’m sure they’ll fit- I rode in the Pipers once this summer and immediately put them in the back of my closet.
I find the Kerrits IceFil to be slick as snot. The silicon is totally ineffective. Sure it will help cement your balanced position, but… I need to use my seat not slide around the saddle. I just got a pair of HORZE Madison full seat tights. Just right silicon. WIDE elastic waistband. Lightweight tech fabric. At under $45, I bought two pair!!

This is why so many types of breeches exist! I absolutely love the silicone on the Icefil tights! I can’t speak to previous years as they overhauled them this year, but I love the fact that the silicone isn’t super grippy! Nothing worse than trying to post and your breeches sticking. Their silicone reminds me a lot of Romfh - a little grippy but smooth at the same time. One thing I will note tho is the new design is slightly heavier. Great for not showing as much of the lumps and bumps the older version did, but they are a little warmer.
I think the coolest tights I’ve ever worn are the Ovation aerocool tights. They run really small though - order a size or two up. My goal is to be able to fit back into mine

I like the Kerrits Crossover breech a whole lot for summer. They are very light weight, water “resistant” (it beads, but rain will soak through), and have actual knee patches–I hate silicone, personally. Not cheap, but I have several pair that made it through hunt season last year without a scratch, so they seem to last.

No grippy on them, but I’ve started just riding in American Eagle Real Me Leggings. So lightweight and I find them on sale for ~$20. Wish they had a pocket though.
The Tuff Rider tights with mesh on the side. Or Kerrits tights.
I always order a size or two up so they’re not as, er, revealing.

My kerrits tights have no pockets. Thumbs down.
My piper tights have silicone grip knee patches that leave me stuck to my saddle whether I want to be or not. I’m pretty certain if I went flying it would be without my breeches.
My Hadley tights are just right. I really like the kerrits crossovers too but I got a pair with the trendy suede pockets and they are NOT cool.

I got a pair of the Kerrits Ice Fil tights this spring and like them. My old favorites were the Boink tights but they are no more. I have Tropical Rider Endurocool breeches and I am out of those as soon the temps hit 70 degrees. I am very heat sensitive and I have to be able to cool down. Those (the TR breeches) are not it.
I got the Ice Fils to try and have a phone pocket. I haven’t tried yoga pants. I don’t need or particularly like sticky so those might work.

Leggings from cheap shops do fine. You are not supposed to ride in sticky johds every day.
Save them for when you compete. Same with boots. Short boots every day.
Then sticky bums, long boots and a jacket when you compete and you don’t move in the saddle. (In theory!)

I just ride in shorts and sometimes half chaps in the summer. But don’t forget to sunblock your knees! It might look funny but here where it’s 100 degrees, it is much cooler than tights. Someone suggested I add fleece covers to my stirrups and I won’t need chaps in my dressage saddle.

I bought a pair of Irideon Synergy tights and I love them. They’re super stretchy and lightweight, but with good support. Plus, two big pockets in front. About $90 most places.
The ariat eos tight looks promising for this. The entire lower leg is mesh. I have not tried them myself as the ariat branding turns me off.
