Pharoah had five on the pre entries. I wonder if that’s a record for a freshman sire.

Any one believe that the road to HOY doesn’t run through the Classic this year?

I’m thinking I’d agree with this statement

If Bricks and Mortar wins the Turf, he would deserve it, IMO.

If Midnight Bisou wins the Distaff, she would deserve it, IMO.

This was my thought as well if I take the Classic out of the HOY equation. I’m not even sure I’d put McKenzie as HOY if he wins the Classic unless both Midnight Bisou and Bricks And Mortar both get the pants beat off them.

If both Midnight Bisou and Bricks And Mortar win, hard call IMO  For me, McKenzie wouldn’t be in the discussion.

Pretty cool… TVG is doing a daily Breakfast At The Breeders Cup and this morning SA had the turf course open for working with cones placed to keep the horses on the outer half of the track. Simon Bray observed that the horses were getting nice, lovely turf which hadn’t been used to race on

Well, you can’t remove the Classic from the equation totally because if Code of Honor wins it, he is going to dominate the HOY conversation regardless of whether or not people think there is another horses that’s more deserving.

If Bisou wins here race you’d think she’d be a straight shot for HOY considering she’s unbeaten in 7 races thus far this season. All graded stakes. I hope she wins it and I hope shes HOY. Very deserving. Awesome mare.

Bricks and Mortar has 5 races under his belt this year. undefeated. All graded Stakes. I hope he doesn’t get the nod simply because he won the Pegasus which was a sorry excuse of a worlds richest race.

Big Code of Honor fan over here mainly because I thought his sire was worth looking at and people called me crazy!. 7 races under his belt this year. He is not undefeated. He won 4 of those, all graded stakes.

I am curious… why would Code Of Honor be HOY if he wins the Classic (maybe my neophyte-ism is showing  )? He’s 4-1-1, including 4 G1, with one off the board in 7 races this year while Bricks and Mortar is 5-0-0 in 5 races including 4 G1, other than all of Bricks and Mortar’s races are turf. Midnight Bisou is undefeated in 7 races this year including 3 G1.

Because he’s a three year colt in an industry that cares about three year old colts more than any other kind of horse. :frowning:

And the Travers and JC Gold Cup wins have already put him squarely in the middle of the conversation.

@LaurieB that makes sense (the 3YO part anyway) even if I don’t agree

To me, and I get I’m not the “industry”, I like looking at overall performance… Bricks and Mortar has won some nice races as has Midnight Bisou. But, a turf colt and a dirt filly; neither of which are “popular” choices for HOY.

Saturday will be a fun day with some solid favorites and some fields a bit more wide open…

:encouragement:

I think B&M or Midnight Bisou probably will get HOY with a victory.

To me, one of the most interesting end of year awards will be the 3-year-old championship. I think COH and maybe even Omaha Beach with victories would have a good case at it, although COH a stronger one with a victory in the classic. I truly think Omaha is the best 3-year-old this year, but the poor horse has had the worst luck. Without the surgery and with a full season, I think he probably would have had the championship well sewn up by now. I do think COH has been masterfully handled and developed and is peaking. I remember thinking back at his Fountain of Youth victory that he looked like a greyhound. He’s still lighter but has filled out a good bit and obviously matured. I would love to see him race at 4. I think he’s one who will only get better with time.

Any way to watch online? Sitting in a motel without decent tv to

Probably not without paying. You can go to the TVG website and see what they charge. If you get NBCSN at home, you can go to their website and enter your info.

Bloodhorse has replays but sometimes it takes awhile for them to be available.

Darn NBCSN isn’t running the TVG feed. The have NBC commentators.

The #10 jockey is chewing gum.
