Breeder’s Cup 2020

I like Maximum Security and Improbable in the Classic, I think Tiz the Law has a chance but the other two are probably better now. The Distaff with Monomy Girl and Swiss Skydiver will be really exciting, but maybe another one will show up? Jackie’s Warrior in the Juvenile looks good and he probably will run well. I would love if Whitmore wins the Sprint, his 4th time running in a BC race. Always nice to see good races when our own racing season have ended  No many big races left for us, just the “normal” ones.

Another deep field in the BC Dirt Mile led by Art Collector and War of Will. The 3YO whippersnapper vs the 4YO War of Will; the ML has Complexity as the 2/1 favorite.

Also in the field among others are Knicks Go, Mr. Freeze and Owendale.

Vekoma out of the BC Sprint this morning after spiking a fever last night.

On why Authentic is considered #3 on BBs string. The horse can be difficult, took him most of this year to get over his race day only gate manners
( or lack thereof) assuming they don’t pop up again. Watching him school on TVG this AM, looked great but also very much on the muscle and looked like his very busy mind was working overtime. While most galloped out obviously happy with the crisp morning, Keeneland horse friendly atmosphere and great track surface, schooled speed control, moving in/out and lead changes with pricked ears and bright expression relaxing as they joined back up with their Pony? Authentic’s rider had their hands full, objected to rating, ears all over the place, got what was being asked but not without…discussion. Did not want to slow and looked tightly wound with head sky high when he did stop.

Now, thing is, was that a good thing with him or not? His peeps say he has changed alot and they have learned to not try to over control him, to let him be. This race will interesting to see how his performance has progressed off his win or not. Apparently he does better closer to the front and left alone, PP doesn’t help him too much there and much depends on what the others do strategy wise.

Maximum Security also looked fab this morning, wanted more but relaxed well when asked. Gamine looked a beast, really ready and also looked to want more when asked to rate. JMO on these. Were I there, as I was supposed to be, think my money would be on these two. Have to see how Authentic comes out on Sat. but if he doesn’t beat himself, might hit the board at more attractive odds, might have him in an exacta, see what he’s got.

Really bummed about not being there, so many very good ones to see, both well known and 2 yos looking to get to be well known. When I bought the tickets, feared freezing and getting wet. Hard to sit home to watch in glorious, dry, 70f weather.

It’s too bad that we won’t be able to discuss the Sunday Breeders Cup races here.

COTH is taking the Forums down on Sunday in preparation for the new version to begin on Monday. We’ll have to get cracking to learn how to work the new format.

One Master is out of the BC Mile with ‘raised muscle enzymes’ after traveling to KY.

Owned by Roy and Gretchen Jackson, One Master was withdrawn from the Mile after having raised muscle enzymes when arriving at Keeneland this week. Although she responded well to treatment, the decision was taken not to run the three-time group 1 winner.

Haggas said: "She’s not running. She got set fast when she arrived on the first morning out there. Her muscle enzymes were raised and, although they’ve come down after some treatment and she seems fine, the veterinary team in conjunction with us have decided she won’t run.

I’m assuming that’s the fancy jargon for “she tied up”.

I’ll buy that as ‘elevated muscle enzymes’ to my untrained brain was a bit of a head scratcher.

If indeed tying up, would that happen just as a result of the trip across the pond or would it have occurred/exacerbated because of a gallop or other post-travel exercise? I also didn’t know what they meant by ‘got set fast’…

At least connections (owners, trainers, vets, etc) appear to be mindful of not wanting to risk the repeat of last year’s Classic. Sounds like many of Bramlage’s recommendations from his findings on Mongolian Groom have been implemented. I personally believe that 100% no fatalities is unrealistic but I also believe that the industry should keep working toward 100%.

Barber is thrilled to pieces about Vequist.

Aunt Pearl was remarkable.
The 2nd placed filly, Mother Earth was one of the Aidan O’Brien fillies that ran with the wrong number and jockey in Newmarket this fall. Snowfall, the other filly that ran in the Newmarket race with the wrong number and jockey, was in this race as well. I didn’t see how she ran.

Essential Quality in the Juvenile was awesome. I can see him possibly making the distance next May.

Princess Noor appeared to have run to her paper times and not the level of quality in the race. Nice win for Vequist.

I also happened to catch the win at The Big A that was Todd Pletcher’s 5,000 win!!!

Good thing that I bet only mentally as I don’t think I had a mental winning ticket among the lot. I don’t always mentally pick the horse with the lowest odds

Nashville was astounding in the Perryville Stakes on the BC undercard. Never asked, he set a new track record at Keeneland, 6f in 1:07.89.

Missed the Perryville but caught the Lafayette  Absolutely Aiden broke down at the head of the stretch with two following (Dinar and Strike That). Dinar #2 and Strike That #8 both were able to get up and caught by the outriders past the wire.

All 3 jocks were up and ‘ok’. Absolutely Aiden’s jock, Chris Landeros, was shaken but fortunately his only mount for the day.

Absolutely Aiden vanned off

Did leave me wondering if the level of scrutiny given to the BC horses is extended to include the undercard horses.

Hopefully Absolutely Aiden can be saved.

Sometimes racing does suck.

Update. Absolutely Aiden was vanned off the track and subsequently euthanized after catastrophic injury to LF.

And a nice win by Merneith, daughter of AP, in the Qatar Fort Springs Stakes. :encouragement:

Coming up, the BC Filly and Mare Sprint with a very nice card… Speech, Gamine, Come Dancing, Venetian Harbor, Segengeti Empress (in her swan song), Bell’s the One (among others).

Gamine smoked the field in the Filly and Mare Sprint in a new track record 1:20.20 (IIRC).

Serengeti Empress just couldn’t hold off Gamine who was under an easy ride down the stretch by Velazquez. Serengeti Empress did hold on for 2nd over Bell’s the One.

Holy cr*p, another track record in the BC Dirt Mile by Knicks Go… first quarter in 21.2!!!

Gate to wire by Knicks Go.

That dirt track must be smokin’ fast today!

Keeneland is smokin’ today… yet another course record in the Fill and Mare Turf… Audarya pipped Rushing Fall at the wire!

Starship Jubilee stumbled out of the gate and dropped Geroux but he seemed to be ok… got right up.
