Breeders Cup 2024

I was just wondering, because I know Peacock is NBC, but it doens’t SAY NBC. I am probably just borrowing trouble.

They just are using the logos on that graphhic. Peacock’s logo is just “peacock”. It is definitely also broadcasting on NBC with that logo shown. I’m also hoping/assuming that you can live steam everything directly from the Breeders Cup website with their own broadcast team like they’ve had in years past.

I think the mile and three-eighths distance is fine for a classic race. As far as the three turns are concerned, these are horses, not aircraft carriers. They should be able to do it.

My mistake - I misread it as being a nine-furlong race, not 11 furlongs. It seems it’s the distance Brown objects to and not the number of turns.

Sorry, Chadster, but it’s the WORLD championships, not the US Championships. It’s a bit much to expect all of the races to be written according to your horses’ preferred distances.

Per the article it’s not the distance Chad Brown is concerned with, it’s the 3 turns versus 2.

Brown argued that there are no Grade 1 turf races for fillies and mares in the U.S. held over three turns, so why should there be a championship race held at that configuration?

“The distance doesn’t really matter to me, but keep it at two turns,” Brown said. “I didn’t have any horses who could compete for the win at that distance.”

His last sentence indicates he thinks his horses can’t win at that distance. Fair enough, he’s the one who would know, but why is he griping about the number of turns if the race is too long for them anyway?

Next will go in the Classic rather than the Turf.

Most of us already knew this was coming… so it isn’t a surprise.

Skippylongstocking will switch from the Classic to the Dirt Mile.

While I’m sad to not see her race again it’s good that the injury was caught so quickly. And at her age retiring to being a broodmare is better than trying to heal her up and bring her back to racing form. Maybe someday she’ll really retire and go to Old Friends.

They bought part of him.

From TDN: “Even though this is breaking news, Fierceness’s stallion rights were negotiated after the Breeders Cup Juvenile to Coolmore America,” said Repole in a statement released on X.

Repole says “I am staying in with a significant share in Feirceness’s breeding rights. This negotiated deal also includes a provision for Fierceness to run back as a 4YO. Coolmore will recieve 50% of his racing rights for his 4YO campaign”

interesting. the Bloodhorse article mentioned nothing of what the TDN article spoke of.

Ashford Stud confirmed Oct. 27 it had purchased Fierceness , the 2023 champion 2-year-old and a leading Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) contender. The three-time grade 1-winning son of City of Light , by Quality Road , will enter stud at Ashford at the end of his racing career.
With the acquisition of Fierceness, Coolmore’s international racing operation will have three contenders starting in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Seems like Bloodhorse wasn’t very thorough in their journalism.

Or they thought it somewhat old news since it sounds like this deal was negotiated last year and only publicly released now.

Hope we get to see him as a 4 year old. Though somewhat mercurial, he’s spectacular when he shows up.
