Breeders Cup Entries!

I got it on NBCsports listed as starting at 3:30…but it’s on right now at 3:08. Juvenile Fillies…ugh…Secret Compass down, Valsquez apparently hurt. Ugly, ugly fall up against the rail, she can’t get up…

Dam, just turned it on too…now football is back on so it looks like they just cut away for the race itself until the scheduled 3:30 broadcast.

Just tunfed in to see that horrible spill. Damn. Johnny was holding his arm like it was broken. Poor little filly.

So…what of Wise Dan later today? Who would be available if JV is anything but just shaken up ( which is doubtful, that was bad one at full tilt in traffic)?

Just updated on HRTV that Johhny V was taken to the hospital and is obviously missing the next race, but no word on his status to ride Wise Dan later. Has anyone heard any update on Secret Compass? The injury they reported did not sound like a good one.

Fracture left front. Lost all blood in limb. She’s gone. Worst one I’ve seen in a long time before they edited.

Gary S and the winner a gutsy stretch duel DQ’d in same race.

They are on NBC Sports Network (I think that’s what it’s called).

Reportedly Leszcano will ride Wise Dan

Just reported at the track that Luis Saez taking mount on Jusy the Beauty. Haven’t heard about who’s on Justin Philips, Point of Entry or Palace Malice.

It sucks when this happens but if it had to? Couldn’t it have waited until tomorrow when being laid up would not be so costly? What rotten timing for JV.
BTW, they took him to a hospital in Pasadena, not the one in Arcadia close to the track. Guessing better surgical facilities for that arm… boy, they went down really hard…he’s probably lucky.

Aw man! I had my DVR set to start at 12:30, as that’s what the programming listed as the start time. I just sat down to watch at 1:30–idea being I can fast forward through commercials and be live for the Classic–and I’m totally confused. Apparently I missed a race, a disqualification, a fatal injury to one horse, and a significant injury to a jockey. :frowning:

Lauraruffian, you don’t want to see it. Wish I hadn’t, albeit briefly, because I avert my eyes and yell. Can’t help it. Poor jv. All o then nice ones he was on today. Sigh.

It isn’t that I want to see it–I was totally confused what was going on. I thought maybe it was an undercard race, but the jubilation of the winner’s connections seemed excessive for that. Then they showed Velasquez on the ground, cradling his arm. I was again completely lost. I was surprised I’d missed an actual BC race.

Well, are these races only on HRTV only until the BC Classic? I don’t mind, but I find no coverage at all till 7 pm central.[/QUOTE]

HRTV & NBC Sports Channel (formerly OLN then renamed Vs. Channel, now NBCSC) are carrying live all races until the BCC which is formally on NBC.

I was placing my bets at an OTB (dashing in and out) during the fatal race and never saw the breakdown just the battle to the wire with Gary Stevens up. Thankfully after I heard of the breakdown, when I got home I deleted the race footage. No need to ever, ever see anything like that.

Gary Stevens picked up JV’s mount on Havana.

That said on other mounts a tweet from DRF’s David Grening

Talked to Shug McGaughey who said he heard X-rays negative on Velazquez. He could come back to ride. If not, Rosario rides Point of Entry

Keep in mind Rosie is also out there ready to ride as she has no mounts for the rest of the day …

It was mostly college football with a cut away to live coverage of the race anyway and you don’t need to see unedited film on that one. Not just the poor filly, JV didn’t look so good either, bet he got a hell of a concussion out if that too. He tried but could not rise.

Watching NASCAR right now, afraid to turn it back on to BC. Maybe feel like it by Classic time.

JV might get to return at best in the BCC on Palice Malice or otherwise Rafael B gets the mount. The fixation with pressing owners on “pulling out from auction” winning mounts by interviewer Nick Luck seems ill advised. Groupie Doll and Mizdirection (both winners today) are off sale tomorrow from their respective barns. Winning today wouldn’t change that.

At first I was annoyed my recording missed the Juvenile Fillies, since they aired it during the previous program. But now I don’t mind so much.

Anyone else fund find it insulting that they are running all the female events early? Seriously? Can’t mix up the filly races with the races for “real” horses?

I’m pulling for Strong Mandate in the juvenile - Tiznow baby.

Oh, I’m still pissed about that. I don’t follow as closely as I used to, but didn’t they once make the Friday races–which are pretty obviously a few notches below the main events–“ladies day”? Such blatant sexism, at least IMO. They seemed to have changed that in some respects, but the Distaff has no business still being on Friday. It belongs back on Saturday because it is a main event. Grumble! Mumble! Murmur!

Meanwhile I was distracted by the bouncing hands of the interviewing rider on the palomino as she chatted with the Filly and Mare Sprint winning jockey post-race. I grimaced as the shank of the curb bit was bouncing with her hands. I’m not sure if what I was seeing was as uncomfortable as it looked to me, but I want to take that forgiving palomino home now.

I think “Ladies Day” was only once and they got so much blowback they scrapped it. I don’t mind the Distaff on Friday as they need a marquee event for Friday. But it could also be a race like the Turf on Friday.

Its just ridiculous that that there are nine races today and the first three are the filly races.

Nice job New Year’s Day! And good show for Strong Mandate to finish 3rd after that post and those fractions.

Oh, and Donna Bruthers does the on pony interviews and she’s the worst. I mute her every time.

Can’t hear a thing here at LSP. What do you mean by “off sale”?Are they in, or out, of the sale?

She probably meant “off to the sale”. There is no indication sale plans are canceled for either horse.
