Breeding a POA

So I also have this awesome POA pony and was thinking about breeding her. Since she isn’t papered I’m assuming no matter what I would breed her to, the offspring can’t be registered. Correct?

So who would you breed a POA pony to to get a more refined pony?

This is probably more fantasy than anything, I’ll be breeding my KWPN mare next year

We’ll need more information, like what the mares strengths/weaknesses are. Also what would be your goals with the foal. Do you know anything about the mare’s parentage? That can influence your choice as well

This isn’t necessarily correct… say (for instance) you bred her to a Welsh pony stallion, the offspring would be eligibly for 1/2 Welsh papers with the WPCSA (provided that you are in the USA  ).

It doesn’t matter where she lives, she can register a Half Welsh with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of America. We live in Canada and register our foals each year with the WPCSA. As well, ponies can also be registered Half Welsh with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of Canada.

Our Welsh Pony & Cob stallions are dual registered with both the Canadian and American Welsh Societies, so no matter what breed the mare is, or isn’t ;), the foals are automatically eligible for Half Welsh papers.

Yes, as the above posters have mentioned, if you breed your mare to a registered Welsh stallion, your foal can be registered half Welsh.

We’ve had two POA mares come to our stallion, and the results were very nice, though neither mare passed on her color. You can see Bourbon Street Royalty at http://www.welshponies.com/mardifoals.htm for an idea on the results from a Welsh x POA cross.

While I’m not a fan of POA’s, this is a gorgeous filly by a Welsh cross stallion x POA mare:

This is a registered WPCSA Half Welsh mare by the Welsh stallion *Telynau Royal Charter and out of a POA mare:
