Breeding advice & Pics/info on Cunningham offspring?!

I am having a hard time choosing a fresh stallion for my mare and Cunningham tops my list. Anyone have older offspring they can share pics or links of?

My mare is a very nice hunter mover with a hack winning trot, little to no knee action. She is very balanced and has a fairly scopey jump. However, she has a very long stride for only being 15.3h and needs to be ridden collected as to not get heavy on her front end. Perhaps she is long in the back or built downhill? I am hoping to do an ET with her and am looking for some breeding advice on how and who to choose for her. Ultimately I want to keep her trot and shorten her stride (or back?) to get an easier ride/distance in a hunter class. She is a great mare otherwise. I want to go the route of choosing a hunter/jumper sire that can add some scope and size. I was also looking at escapade and westporte as I need to choose a fresh stallion.

My mare is by Donatelli (Donnerhall x Pik Bube) out of a Viva Voltaire mare out of Prelude(Godewind x Merkur). I will try and post a pic if I can figure it out…

Any help with choosing a stallon is appreciated. I am looking to get an ammy friendly, fancy hunter with a good amount of scope and rideability. My mare is ALMOST all these things!

Thanks in advance

Hopefully this link works, its her first show as a 6 yr old.

Okay, so I edited this post since I wasn’t really clear on what I was asking and I added info on my mare. Anyone?

I have a Cunningham I adore but she is not very old. Only just a yearling. She’s out of a TB/WB mare who is by Balta’Czar. The filly is extremely quiet and good natured. She seems like she’s going to be so much fun. She is bay with a lot of white.

I posted on youtube a clip of my 3 yr old Cunningham out of a KWPN jumper bred mare at a Young Horse Show Series qualifier this past weekend in VA. first breed show and first away show and first time in indoor on a VERY windy day. He was such a good boy, the judges raved about his temperament. Said he’s eager to please. I am in love with him – bought him last June as a 2 year old.

I think he will be very easy to start. If I could handle owning more than one horse, I would definitely snatch another one up.

Mesach, that is a nice youngster, thanks for the post!

Another question I have, is Cunningham a good option for shortening a long back? I have recently looked at Balta C’zar who seems to do this well. Thoughts anyone? I really like Cunningham but I need a shorter back as well, with some added height.

Lots on his page - http://www.cunningham-stallion.com/foals--progeny.html

Just watch the slide show! <3

I have a Cunningham 2-year old out of my A/O hunter mare. She’s pretty hot and doesn’t have the best canter. My boy is incredibly quiet and has done everything I’ve asked of him so far. We took him to a show last fall and he was better behaved than his mother ever is. Never put a foot wrong. He does have a little more knee action than my mare, but still a nice huntery trot and beautiful, big, well-engaged canter.
I’m not sure Cunningham will give you a shorter stride, but it may be easier to compact. I haven’t ridden mine yet, so I can say for sure.
I don’t think my gelding has a shorter back than my mare, but it is much broader and stronger. He definitely added height though! My mare is 16.1 1/2 and Cohen is already 16.0 1/2.

Here’s a conformation shot. Any thoughts on if she actually has a long back or built downhill? She was needing some added weight here. Maybe not the best pic.

Thats what I was thinking, that Cunningham could improve the canter as opposed to shortening the stride. Make it easier to collect. Thanks for sharing your pics, your boy looks like he will mature into a very nice horse. Your mare is definately more square than mine.

My Cunningham filly just turned 5 in late March. She is out of a 17hh, old style, big bodied TB mare. Filly is a solid 17.2. I lovingly call her my “monster”. Here is a her pic from Cunningham’s page at her foal inspection: http://www.cunningham-stallion.com/uploads/1/0/8/1/10811667/1311080_orig.jpg and with her dam http://www.cunningham-stallion.com/uploads/1/0/8/1/10811667/6965862_orig.jpg. If links don’t work, her name is Copycat on the offspring page. I have tons of pics and videos on my FB page. Feel free to PM me and I will send you my FB info.

Cunningham definitely improved the movement of the mare and gave a TON more suspension. Her canter is most definitely not easy to collect at this stage though! She was born broke (seriously the calmest and most unflappable foal I have been around). She is not mareish at all and has a super work ethic. She is not wild and really wants to please. She has been slow to mature due to her big size and we didn’t start her under saddle until she was 4. Conformationally, she wasn’t one who could have shown on the line and went through many gawky stages. The older she gets, the more she comes into her own. She was a breeze to start under saddle and the trainer calls her the “teacher’s pet”. Until we can get her canter more balanced and compressed (she wants to lope around with like an 18’ stride), I am not pushing her to jump. I adore this filly though and I am excited for our future together.
