Breeding certificate

I need to get the breeding certificate signed by my vet. I am not sure which one however. I used a different vet for the insemination and the neonatal exam. The signature line for the vet’s signature is next to the foaling date not the insemination date so I am guessing it would be the neonatal vet that needs to sign it. Is that correct?
Thank you!

Mine ask for the vet that did the insemination.

What registry? I think the point of the breeding certificate is to confirm insemination dates, not new-born exam dates, so mine (GOV) are signed by the inseminating vets.

As has been discussed on this forum before, the point of requiring a vet’s signature is to confirm that semen from the stallion named on the cert was used to inseminate the mare named on the cert. It basically adds an additional stamp of legitimacy to the breeding by putting the vet’s professional status on the line.

FWIW, the OHBS/GOV BC states:
“I certify that the above named mare was bred by (AI/TS/FS) on (dates) with semen identified by me as being from the above named stallion.”

It then asks for the vet’s name, address, signature, and date of signature.

Foaling info (date/sex/color&markings) is below the vet’s signature.

This process is probably not as necessary these days for registries that do parentage verification via DNA on ALL foals, but some registries do not verify parentage on all foals, particularly those registered while at the mare’s side. If parentage verification is not done, and the BC was not signed by the inseminating veterinarian, then parentage of the foal depends solely on the SO - and it is not unknown for mistakes to be made when shipping semen, esp. during the height of breeding season for an SO with multiple stallions.

I will also add that inseminating vets SHOULD be looking at the paperwork that comes with the semen to verify that it names the correct stallion. If not, they are falling down on THEIR responsibilities. I tell friends who are breeding to always discuss the protocol with their vets and make sure they understand they are to check the paperwork BEFORE breeding the mare.

I think you are using ISR/Oldenburg NA? Do you have the actual breeding certificate that has the registry name at the top? If so it actually has a whole section that should be signed by the vet, with dates of insemination, that says “I hereby certify that I have received the above described semen shipment and have used it for artificial insemination of the mare named on this certificate”.

If you just have something typed up the the stallion owner, the registry still wants the inseminating vets signature.

It is just the one on stallion owner letter head. Thanks everyone.
