I had hoped to wean my guy in early October, but he is only 4-1/2 months old. I see the weaning dates (per the Almanac) for late October/November have a run of 8-10 days.
What would be the best days in that run?
October 31st - November 3rd
November 27th - 30th
Definitely wait as the six month age is BEST for mare and foal.
Thanks for the reply. I’m hoping to do it this coming weekend. He will be 5-1/2 months and they are both very independent of each other.
December 24th - 27th last weaning days for 2014. 
What are the best weaning days in 2015, specifically October and November?

it never occured to me to google for the weaning dates ! I always thought it was something old and not usual …
I never heart (just as example) of weaning dates here in Europe …
but, I think the weaning dates Virginiabred gave are still different. ‘Her’ weaning dates cover a period of 3/4 days.
The weaning dates of the farmer almanac covers nearly 10 days (every month)
Exactly OBdB. I go by Bloodhorse magazine dates and a Thoroughbred publication. The dates in a Farmers Almanac are more geared for humans and are way more generic.

This is what The Bloodhorse says:
Foals are weaned after the sign moves “down” past the knees but before the sign moves back to the head

Wean by the 2nd or 3rd day within the signs. Never wean on the last day of the signs. You can also use these signs to castrate your colts as well.

Since this is a sticky, I thought it would be ok to ask here. What are the best days to wean and geld this month? (I am gelding a yearling, not the soon to be weanling.)
I googled and got two different dates. Weaning I found 9/18 and 9/27 or 9/5-13. Thank you!
