Breeding of World Cup finalists 1979

Can one of my fellow breeding nerds with access to the American TB studbook look up the breeding of Bold Con? He jumped in the 1979 World Cup final with Norman Dello Joio as Allegro - he is by Bold Sultan and out of Ruth Francis but who was she by? Also does anyone know the breeding of The Jones Boy? Conrad Homfield’s Balbuco xx? Scott Nederlander’s Southside? Irish experts - Eddie Macken’s Carrolls of Dundaik? Con Power’s Loughcrew? How about Lionel Dunning’s Jungle Bunny and Nick Skelton’s Lastic. I am looking at the breeding of World Cup finalists from 1979 to 2019, amazing that the info gets lost so quickly. Any help appreciated - Chris Hector

might have a full pedigree some where else let me look

@Equine Unity - that’s a 1990 foal. Not the same horse the OP is looking for. The sire Bold Sultan is on All Breeds, but his son Bold Con is not.

Ruth Francis is by On Location (Teddy x Cinema/Sweep). She is out of Metropole by Midway x Husky Matron/Tryster

I just entered Bold Con in PedigreeQuery from the information on Equineline.

The Jones Boy is by Monterrico II out of Widder Jones. That is his JC registered name. Southside’s registered name was Discount Price. His dam is actually Boston Browney, not Boston Browny.

CHector, 5 generation pedigrees are free on Equineline, the US Jockey Club database. www.equineline.com. The Irish Horse Board allows one to look up Irish horses’ breeding if one registers. https://breeding.horsesportireland.ie/Person/Login.aspx

I once tried to find out Balbuco’s dam on the Argentine TB studbook. When nothing looked right, I wrote them. They didn’t bother to answer me.

Thank you to all the kind people who took the trouble to respond to my plea for help. Since it changed format the Sporthorse data base hates me and won’t let me use my existing identity or create a new one, if someone could tell me the sire of Balbuco I would be grateful. Ten years later, at Tampa, the records of the finalists are much better, but there are still gaps. Can anyone help with the breeding of George Lindemann’s Jupiter, Peter Leone’s Quarter horse, Threes & Sevens, Juan Trevijano’s Tyrol, Hiro Tomizawa’s Don Carlos, Mark Leone’s Costelloe and Chris Keppler’s Concorde?? I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide - Chris Hector

Balbuco’s sire was the French TB Timor, a son of Tourbilion, who was sent to Argentina for stud duty. [URL=“https://www.pedigreequery.com/timor”]https://www.pedigreequery.com/timor

I’ve entered Discount Price/Southside in PedigreeQuery from the equineline pedigree.

Concorde obituary in COTH: https://www.chronofhorse.com/article/concorde. This article says he was a Hanoverian/TB cross. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/…192-story.html All we can tell for certain is that he was Canadian and bred by Ron Southern of Spruce Meadows fame. There is a Concorde on sporthorse-data.com of the right age, said to be bred by Ron Southern, but he is pure Hanoverian. https://sporthorse-data.com/pedigree/concorde-10 This horse’s grandsire was Wolfsburg, but they list his sire as Wodka, not Young Wolfsburg. And the dam is pure Hanoverian–Liegnitz. So who knows?

All Breed Pedigree which is not noted for reliability has this for Threes and Sevens:

Don Carlos also competed in the 1992 Olympic Games with Hiro Tomizawa if that helps.

I grew up around Spruce Meadows in the early 80’s, and IIRC Wodka was Young Wolfsburg barn name.

For Lastic, I think Nick mentions his breeding in his autobiography. He was by a Trakhener called Lateran but dam was unkown. I am not at home to check the book though for accuracy of my memory lol
