Breeding to a stallion with the same grandsire on top side

I have had a few horses over the years with the top side being very close ie stallion and dam’s sire were either same grandsire or great grandsire. There really is nothing I would change about either horse (well the mares size but I am fine with not getting a bigger foal) . What are your opinions? Just sitting here icing my ankle and meandering in thought

It depends on the grandsire and if you like the qualities. Some stallions can bring qualities to a breeding that I might not want intensified, and other stallions work very well doubled and even tripled.

The closest I have heard of in the TB world (the Quarter horse world is a different story) is 3 x 3, or 2 x 4.

I feel uncomfortable with that close inbreeding, but it is being done. 3 x 4 is OK everywhere.

I’ve always heard 3 x 3 is ok, but no closer than that, as long as the horse doubled on the pedigree has positive traits and no faults that might be brought to the forefront.
