breeding to Zonik

What type of mare would you choose to cross with Zonik? Or what mare did you cross with Zonik? What is he passing along, good and bad? Are there any foal reports for 2012 out there (like the KWPN does?)

And if you did breed to him, how was the semen quality?

TIA

I could be wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure that Judy Yancey just had a Zonik foal in the last few weeks. If so, you could certainly pick her brain about him.

Yes, you’re right. I’m thinking her’s is probably the only Zonik foal in North America so far.

Siegi B also should be having a Zonik foal soon. She spoke warmly about this stallion and surely would be pleased to give her insights. We do not breed dressage horses so are not in a position to say much that would be useful to you ourselves.

I tried to have a Zonik foal but didn’t have any luck. 2012 was a pretty tough year for me as far as breeding and horses in general were concerned, so I would not blame the semen. At this point I wouldn’t hesitate to use Zonik again.

Since this stallion has been recently sold to Edward Gal’s sponsors, does anyone know if his semen will still be available in North America?

Judy Yancey has Zonik listed on her 2013 price list, so I assume that means she either has it in stock or is expecting a shipment. Her black Zonik filly looks pretty special!

I just read that Glock bought Romanov for Edward as well. Lucky guy!

I just got a gorgeous Zonik filly out of my Donnerhall mare Donnabelle a week ago. Fabulous. She took on one dose, too…bonus! Great semen quality.

Availability is now the issue. I did inquire about him and was told the semen price was sky-high IF there was any available. The recent sale made these changes in price and availability occur, as it appears the new owners are less interested in breeding and more focused on performance.

Bumping this up. Zonik is spectacular and now he is also available for breeders; what are your experiences with his offspring (type, temperament etc.)? What kind of a mare he fits for the best?

Having worked closely with Zonik as a young horse I would be very careful to pick a mare with a stellar temperament and work ethic, unless you are also Edward Gal!

I have a 2015 filly by Zonik out of my Rosenthal/Stedinger mare. She has a stellar temperament and is a fabulous mover, but so is my mare. You can see her on my website twinwillows.net. Her name is Zulla TWF. My mare took on one dose.
