Bridle Gurus: What brand is this bridle?

”‹ Anyone want to take a stab at what brand this could be, or where I could find another bridle like this? I remember posting a few years ago but didn’t have great pictures. This bridle is at least 15 years old, so I am not sure if it is still even made anymore… It was given to me by a boarder/client about 15 years ago as a gift after I took care of her horse that was on significant stall rest/round the clock care. I do not recall the brand, and while I was cleaning it today I realized it has some rot that makes it unusable – it has been in a shadowbox anyway for the last 8 years, but I would love to find a replacement as this bridle was incredibly versatile and I loved it.

It is a brown training bridle of some sort. It has a ‘C’ on one strap for ‘COB SIZE’. The buckles are round and oblong. The reins are ‘warendorfer reins’, and came with the bridle. The bridle features an easy swap/clip stud hardware, for swapping bits out easily.

I would say in terms of leather quality, it is medium range. It was used heavily back in the day and is a bit rough for wear now.

I thought that Warendorf was Dover’s dressage line? but I could be mistaken. That bridle looks like the browband is not original. Are the buckles solid brass?

Yes, I forgot to mention the brass clincher is not original to the bridle; its original browband matches the noseband.

Warendorf is a Dover brand, but it’s also a type of rein (not to be confused with the brand). They are also known as “monkey reins”. The reins came with the bridle.

Here’s an example of them in action:

All the hardware is solid brass. One thing I did not mention in OP, it may be tough to tell in pictures, but the edging is black on the noseband and original brow piece.

Tory & Schneiders both make training bridles that are similar to what you posted. Could it be either of those?

I have a vague recollection of a training bridle with clips and rings in the Dover (or, geez, Millers??) catalogue forever ago. It wasn’t the Tory bridle…it was a little nicer than that.

But there are quite a few bridles made with clips, at all sorts of price points, here are a few…

Have you seen the Dy’on one? It has brass buckles and clips - http://www.dyon.be/gb/bridles/111-bridon-plat-a-mousquetons.html

Thanks all! While it was “training bridle” in style it was definitely a nice quality bridle. Some care went into making it, it has “guards” around the clips, which I really like and haven’t seen replicated in other bridles. The finish and edging on it was very nice when it was brand new, and it broke in beautifully. By today’s standards I’d definitely say it was a medium price point bridle.

I wonder if it was a Miller’s purchase…

That Dyon bridle is nice. I like that it has the same leather guard around the training clips.

Love the CWD ones… That “Every Day” bridle is also pretty nice too…

Thanks all for chiming in and for the shopping options!!

It really looks like a Bobby’s English Tack bridle based on the buckle shape and dark edging to me. I think they made training bridles - the one I could find has a different style of buckle but they use different types on different ranges. http://griffinbrook.com/opencart/Training-equine-equipment/bridles-training-chambons/bobbys-snap-training-bridle?limit=75
