Bridle Nameplates

I bought some really nice bridle nameplates online and decided to install them myself. They came with the kind of rivets you just hammer on, basically a little pin and a cap.

I put a nameplate exactly like these on months ago and it worked out fine, so was confident these would as well.

They feel like they’re on sturdy, but some of the rivets can slide sideways like a screw that isn’t tightened all the way, if that makes sense. They’re not coming off, though. This is annoying, but not noticeable unless you actually mess with the rivets and as long as they don’t come off, it’s not a huge deal.

However, I didn’t pay enough attention to how I put the pins and caps on, and while one has the “pretty” side on the outside, the others don’t. Do they look that bad? I’m not sure how I’d get them off to fix it and I’d have to get new hardware, but even though these are just schooling bridles (I’m not nearly brave enough to try this with my nicer bridles), it will really bother me if they look like someone who obviously didn’t know what they were doing put on the nameplates. Am I being too particular?

Here are the photos (the first one is the one that turned out looking normal, the other two have ugly looking rivets that I think are facing the wrong side out):

Thank you!

If it bothers you, I would replace them. You can buy new hardware at haltertags.com or I’ve found them in bulk packs on Ebay for cheap.

I am not able to view your photos but I’m a perfectionist and that would drive me crazy. I would re-do them correctly.

I prefer escutcheon pins and burr installation vs chicago screws or plain rivets. They are very secure and safe if done correctly. A good farrier or shoe maker (or you) can install these.

Here are some good videos that show the “how to”

I like these as well! I’ve seen other people’s nameplates with these, but always had them come with rivets. Thank you, I’ll have to redo them with these!

Also, stupid question, but does anyone know how to take the nameplates off once they’re on (the ones I have currently on with rivets)?

I do have a farm store nearby that does halter plates and dog collars. Do you think a place like that would know how to remove them without damaging the leather?

Sorry for the delayed response. I just saw your question. I have used needle nose pliers from the back side of the leather and bent up the edges. It’s a job that may be best left for the pros
