I’ve been doing dressage for the last few years and am starting to jump again. I need a brown bridle! Talk to me about the absolute most lovely bridles around. I sold all my brown bridles…is it still Edgewood/Hadfield’s? I just want one but want it to be nice.
Of my “new” bridles my two favorites are my Silver Crown bridle and my Hinterland bridle.
I’m an Edgewood fan— classic, last forever, American leather, and made here. My hard to fit big headed but not oversized mare loves hers and looks gorgeous in it.
This one by The In Gate if you’re splurging. Bonus he’s a lovely human being.
And then for pricing for mere mortals can’t go wrong with Black Diamond!
Also their rubber lined laced reins are AMAZING. And also Amy is one of us, just an ammy doing her thing.
My go to bridles are from The In Gate and Black Diamond. Both Jimmy and Amy are a delight to work with!
My daughter’s horse has a very hard to fit head properly; Jimmy and Amy were each so helpful in talking through options and mix/match sizes to come up with bridles that fit and look gorgeous!
My next nice bridle will be a Black Diamond, I’ve heard rave reviews and they are a fabulous price for the quality!
I love my silver crowns. beautiful leather.
My Hadfields is perfect with daily use and moderate maintenance for the last 5-6 years - the leather has aged to a lovely glow and there are none of those cracks and wrinkles / bumps you see on cheaper leather. Also the straps are the right length - not ending halfway up the cheekpiece like a pony bridle. Happy shopping! I love nice bridles.
Edgewoods for me. The “dupe” that is also next level IMO is The Tack Hack bridle. It’s $330 with reins versus $380 for the Edgewood version (no reins). The Tack Hack bridle takes oil like a dream and is just as nice as my Edgewoods. I had a Voltaire and sold it because the leather wasn’t “buttery” like I prefer. I have also not been impressed with CWD and Butet bridles.
One more vote for Black Diamond! A truly lovely bridle and you will be thrilled with the price point. Plus, as others have said, Amy is the best!
I’ve heard some sketchy stuff about newer Hadfield’s quality, and some truly sketchy stuff about their customer service. YMMV.
I really like my Black Diamond tack, and Amy was a delight to work with. I need more bridles like I need numerous holes in the head but I will eventually acquire more.
Thanks for all the Black Diamond recs! I had some specific requests that aren’t stock, and Amy was wonderful accomodating them! (Flash added, and longer 1/2 inch reins because I like thin reins). I am looking forward to the perfect custom bridle I wanted!
I had never heard of her shop before. Coth at its best!
The In Gate bridles look lovely too, just out of my price point.
Huh, as to Hadfields customer service, I’m surprised. I got my bridle a few years ago, but think it’s the same people, and my experience was top notch. Already had a figure 8 noseband I’d bought in person and loved so ordered my bridle online. It arrived and browband was too short (too brainy, horse!). I called them and they offered to swap it out for an O/S - very fast and no charge. I just sent the original brow back to them. Lovely experience.
ETA I’m a complete nobody!
I love my Hadfields bridle. But if I was buying a nice one for a hunter, I would also take a hard look at The In Gate. They are just lovely, and I think a little more in line with current style than Edgewood.
Dying to get my hands on The in Gate bridle, any comments on durability?
And another happy customer of the Black Diamond hunter bridle and rubber lined laced reins. I get lots of compliments.
Daily use of TIG bridle on two horses for several years. Still look as good as the day I bought them. Did have a pair of reins tear but the horse stepped on them and I can’t fault TIG.
Thank you, appreciate the info!
Love my Black Diamond bridle. It’s my daily driver and looks and feels as gorgeous as the day it arrived.
I love my Antares bridle. I bought mine almost 9 years ago and it is still soft and beautiful. Antares has a cheaper line out for bridles, to confirm it’s the pricer version of it, but I would buy another one in a heart beat.
I was able to handle it during Devon and it was gorgeous. No idea about durability because my husband just laughed and laughed. Also at least for me a $1200 bridle would get used like 4x a year
